Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Dear K ideas: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any discussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! Thanks! Glen 15:36, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well done! Im a kiwi and Ive been meaning to make that article in ages! Awesome effort :) Glen 15:36, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PS; I will added the applicable categories and correctly "wikize" it for you too :) Thanks again Glen 15:37, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Where'd your comment go??? Oh well, easiest thing in the word. It's called "signing" (funny that) and all ya do is add 4 tildes like this ~~~~ which when you save changes to -> Glen 15:54, 21 October 2006 (UTC) <-- that![reply]
You sent me an email? If so I'll check it soon - just taking care of some administrator stuff on the admin noticeboard, then I hope to get to Kevin's article, then as its 5am I hope to get to bed! You're doing really well by the way, I mean playing with you sig settings isnt easy straight away! Just a tip though;
Currently you have your sig like this: [[User:Kempton|K ideas]] which comes out K ideas <-- linking thru to User:Kempton which obviously isnt right. Just swap them round; [[User:K ideas|Kempton]] = Kempton <--- that!
Your article is a simply outstanding first effort too - obviously you're not exactly at "average" learner it seems :) Keep it up! Glen 16:13, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, you're onto it. Beat me to the punch. Also, when customising your sig under "My preferences" above, make sure "Raw signature"n is checked :) Glen 16:17, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites that you are affiliated with, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Sorry. That was a typo. It should have been Lovemarks and I have fixed it now. Thanks for the feedback. You guys are fast. Cheers."ideas are the currency of the future" - Kevin Roberts 00:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
The article Lovemarks doesn't include any description of the product/concept or a reference to its notability. As such it is a candidate for deletion as reposted and non-notable material. If you can include this information as soon as possible then it may be possible to save the article. Please see Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Notability for further information. Image tagging for Image:CBC dragonsden 2006-small.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CBC dragonsden 2006-small.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Margaret Chan[edit]

Harsh? I used an exclamation mark at the end of my comment just in case you decided to add it back. My only complaint was the way the whole section was written; it had appeared that the section was a direct read from those legislative council sources. I totally think the section was appropriate, and I appreciate your work, and I apologize for failing to leave a note on your talk page regarding my reasons for removing that section from the article. Currently, I would like to see that section written in encyclopedic form. In this particular section, I would like it if you could summarize in your own words, using the sources as references for your additions to the page. Some things stick out like, "In addition, Dr CHAN..." CHAN? Couldn't you just summarize what the assessment had established? I'll try to make some corrections, as well. Nishkid64 17:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made some minor corrections to the section, and I plan to read the sources you provided and try to make a more thorough cleanup of the section. Thanks for also uploading a new image of her! The old one was to be deleted on the 16th because it provided no copyright info, so it's good that we now have an official picture of her. Nishkid64 01:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

edits made by IP address 63.242.18.89[edit]

Could someone please help me. I noticed that the IP address 63.242.18.89 had made several edits including one on Margaret Chan (which I know for sure was a wrong change). The year was shifted by one year. And then another change on Walt Disney on a year and by one again.

Few questions here. Is there a quick an easy way to revert a change like that? Is there a location to flag to some admin for this kind of potential "vandalism"? I am sure the admin can fix this kind of stupid changes (or have automatic script) that does this kind of fixes much faster that a novice like myself can do.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers, – Kempton "Ideas are the currency of the future." - a quote by Kevin Roberts 06:23, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting edits is fairly simple; see Help:Reverting. You can report vandalism at WP:AIV. However, these edits seem in good faith to me; vandalism is defined as obviously bad-faith edits. I would recommend asking the editor on his or her Talk page to provide reliable sources for his changes. If you can cite sources that definitively support the previous dates, you're welcome to change them back. Otherwise, I would perhaps wait a day or so to see if the editor can provide any support for his changes. --Slowking Man 06:37, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:CBC dragonsden 2006-small.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. TheIslander 23:43, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What you added didn't really constitute a rationale. However, as a) you pointed out the source, and b) you're the only person that's actually bothered to get in touch to tell me that you've added one, after my adding the speedy-delete template, I went ahead and completed one myself. Take a look sometime, to see what a rationale needs. Cheers ;) TheIslander 14:30, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Margaret Chan[edit]

I notice you have uploaded the image Image:Margaret Chan small.jpg with the {{current tag name}} fair use image tag. However, this tag seems unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Margaret Chan small.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Margaret Chan small.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{current tag name}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Dantadd 01:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Margaret Chan small.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Margaret Chan small.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:25, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KevinRoberts.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:KevinRoberts.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have now answered this concern, I hope the admin who used that bot to generate the message can remove the copyright thingy! I hate to waste time and I am force to waste time on this.

Mind you, I still want to thank the admin who worked hard on getting wikipedia in good shape. So thanks for bugging me. (smile) – Kempton "Ideas are the currency of the future." - a quote by Kevin Roberts 00:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Dick_haskayne2007.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dick_haskayne2007.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

The image is tagged as being copyrighted. This means the image is "non-free." WP:NFCC discusses policy regarding non-free images. One part of this policy is that all non-free images have a fair-use rationale. WP:RAT discusses the necessary components of such a rationale. I suggest you read those pages.--Rockfang (talk) 05:25, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, WP:COPYREQ, might be a good page to read as well.--Rockfang (talk) 05:30, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Dick_haskayne2007.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Dick_haskayne2007.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 05:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

October 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Alison Redford do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. 117Avenue (talk) 23:58, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure how to take your "copy & paste" message to revert my link addition to Alison Redford. I added that link to her first video interview in good faith as it is useful information. And I am sure your template "Welcome to Wikipedia" message was well meaning, but I don't know should I feel insulted or indifferent. You see, I have been trying to do my small part to edit and improve Wikipedia since 2006, may be I should Welcome YOU to Wikipedia.

As one Wikipedia editor to another, your eagerness in reverting (instead of reincorporating, or rewording) other's work in good faith has the sad effect of reducing the contribution in good faith. May be you are worth 10 or 100 Wikipedia editors but it sadly took out the fun for me. – Kempton "Ideas are the currency of the future." - a quote by Kevin Roberts 00:41, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read Wikipedia:External links, specifically WP:LINKSTOAVOID? A link to one of the many interviews she has done, does not contribute to an encyclopaedic article. 117Avenue (talk) 04:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I moved this discussion to the Alison Redford Discussion page. – Kempton "Ideas are the currency of the future." - a quote by Kevin Roberts 05:21, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're not being neutral, why have you selected CBC over all the other media outlets? 117Avenue (talk) 22:38, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find interviews from other media outlets, feel free to add them! Can you do something productive by enhancing the article instead of accusing me of not being neutral. This is getting non-productive. Lets do some good to improve the article.– Kempton "Ideas are the currency of the future." - a quote by Kevin Roberts 22:55, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please also read the policies I linked on the article's talk. I am trying to protect the integrity of Wikipedia, to me, this is something productive. 117Avenue (talk) 23:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
