April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Weddell Island article

Hi Kahastok, recently I have done some work on developing the Weddell Island article, and would appreciate it having your opinion and possible recommendations on it. Best, Apcbg (talk) 07:27, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi - looks like a good article, complete and usefully well referenced.
I think I would use a bit less of a flat structure. Articles like Shapinsay and Skye are featured articles on islands and may provide a guide. I'd suggest something like:
  • Etymology
  • History
    • Discovery
    • Early history
    • A Robinson Crusoe mise-en-scène
    • Falklands War
    • Shipwrecks
    • Burials
  • Geography (new section, see below)
  • Geology
    • Stone runs
  • Flora and Fauna (for Nature heritage section)
  • Government and politics (for Government section)
    • Ownership
  • Economy (for Population and land use)
    • Energy
    • Communications
Also, some of the sections are a bit short, so maybe they could be integrated into others?
I think the lede may be a bit too heavy on the physical geography of the island without including enough of other aspects. We shouldn't really have anything in the lede that isn't already in the article, so while it should locate the island and describe its shape, I think it should also add details about geology, history, economy and so on, with some of the detail (including most of the measurements) moved down into the body of the article (e.g. in a new Geography section).
I hope this is useful. Kahastok talk 15:40, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Many thanks for the most substantial and helpful comments; I'll be working on the article to implement your recommendations as best I can. Best, Apcbg (talk) 09:23, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Apologies regarding Swaziland talk

Hello, I would like to apologise for my misinformed comment(s) at that talk page section. I was ignorant of the second ruling at your specified date. As mentioned in your second comment, I now realise ignorance of that ruling shows a certain level of foolishness on my part.

Regarding the points made in that latter comment you posted, I agree and think that you do have a convincing argument that until the sources are available no changes can be made to the situation. I want to thank you for reiterating that point also. Techhead7890 (talk) 11:05, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

List of shortest-lived states

Hi Kahastok. As per our discussion I've put this page forward for AfD - you can see the discussion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_shortest-lived_sovereign_states

Gratifying to see that our arguments succeeded in this case on the basis of the quality of our arguments. The page was interesting but ultimately unsourced and only likely to eventually result in Citogenesis. FOARP (talk) 13:40, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

WP:BRD and previoius consensus in Gibraltar History section

Hi. I am assuming good faith on your part, so I believe that maybe you think that the previous consensus in the [History section of Gibraltar] was not to mention the destination of the exodus of its inhabitants after the takeover by Rooke in 1704, and that's why you keep deleting the mention of Campo de Gibraltar.

The fact is that the consensus without interruption during the last 8 years, until WCMonster deleted it on November 20 2018, has been to mention that the population moved "to the surrounding area of the Campo de Gibraltar" after the invasion.

Not a single day during the last 8 years did the article stop mentioning the exodus "to the surrounding area of the Campo de Gibraltar" until November 30 2018. So it's more than clear that the consensus includes that phrase. Please take a moment and check any of the previous versions of the article during the last 8 years. For example:

  • November 28 2018[1]
  • December 2017[2]
  • December 2016[3]
  • December 2015[4]
  • December 2014[5]
  • December 2013[6]
  • December 2012[7]
  • December 2011[8]

Now I will assume that you are aware that the consensus version includes the exodus to the surrounding area of Campo de Gibraltar.

So, once you (and WCMonster) have (i) been bold and tried to change the article and delete that detail and (ii) seen that there is no consensus (I think it's clear that I oppose that change), (iii) you should be consistent with your own words and [[[BRD]], and try to look for a new consensus in the talk page before you delete that detail.

Myself, I have (i) edited to add more detail about the exodus (mentioning the official documents that were take to San Roque), (ii) understood that you oppose that change, and (iii) I have accepted to go back to the consensus version (which, so far, includes the destination of the exodus but not the official documents) and taken the issue to the talk page to look for a new consensus.

Now that all this is clear, I will take the article to the consensus version and expect that you will discuss your proposed change in the talk page. I am doing the same with my propsed edit. Thanks - Imalbornoz (talk) 08:30, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

WP:TLDR I'm afraid. If you wish to have a discussion about the content of the article - as opposed to your previous threats and irrelevances - I suggest we do it on the article talk page. Kahastok talk 18:20, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
I will make it simple for you:
So it's more than clear that the consensus includes that phrase. Take a moment and check any of the previous versions of the article during the last 8 years (see above).
Please be a collaborative editor and confirm that you agree (or not) with the sentence quoted above. - Imalbornoz (talk) 19:24, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
