It was devastating yesterday to discover that the MIDAC (CRC) entry in Wikipedia seems to have been deleted. The MIDAC (CRC) entry was an absolutely truthful account of the origin of a small Australian family business pioneering the development of microprocessor intelligent distributed building automation technology at a time when large USA companies like Honeywell and Jonson Controls dominated the field. It is ironic that as a design engineer I have always supported new and emerging technologies, including Wikipedia back around 2002 when MIDAC was commencing development of the online booking system YesBookit, no part of Expedia. It is mentally disturbing to have the publication that I have always promoted as the definitive source of information on any topic, simply delete reference to MIDAC that even though a small business has contributed significantly to the evolution of several technologies since its beginnings back in 1981 as Combined Resources Computing, then as Midac Systems P/L and later as Midac Technologies P/L. Furthermore, I am one of the rare people that has supported Wikipedia financially several times over the years. I may be 75 but I ain't dead yet! Don't start wiping my legacy just yet. It is difficult for me to explain the impact this is having on me. It is highly disturbing mentally and I request that the page is reinstated. Kevinbade (talk) 01:02, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

The reason for the deletion is lack of corporate notability, which is established by sources providing in-depth, independent coverage, of which the article cited zero.

Wikipedia doesn't care about what accomplishments the company has done, only whether those sources exist, and several people, myself included, looked for and failed to find the required sources. This was in no way an attempt to wipe your legacy, merely to enforce Wikipedia's long-established standards. The page will not be reinstated unless anyone can find those sources. Wikipedia's editorial decisions such as this are in no way influenced by donations.

There is a process for challenging closures, but I assure you that trying to challenge the delete closure here will go nowhere unless actual notability-establishing sources can be found. * Pppery * _{it has begun...} 02:02, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

I created the acronym MIDAC from Microprocessor Intelligent Data Acquisition and Control over 40 years ago when working on the automation system for the University of Melbourne (our first big project). Midac was active in developing commercial building automation technology throughout the 80s before the arrival of the world wide web in 1992.

PLEASE - Please help me here. What if you provided me with (or access to) a copy of the MIDAC (CRC) page and I get a well respected automation engineer with whom MIDAC dealt at the time as a client, to verify its accuracy?

No, I wasn't trying to gain influence over the process by mentioning that I have supported Wikipedia financially. I mentioned that to help you understand just how the deletion effected me. IE. having the item deleted from a publication I support and respect for its accuracy as a source in its own right.

Might I ask what you were looking for with regards to "sources" Do you need proof that Midac Systems P/L existed back then. Perhaps I can get that from Australian ASIC records.

The sources you provided are not independent from the company, and at least the second one is not in-depth coverage. What if you provided me with (or access to) a copy of the MIDAC (CRC) page and I get a well respected automation engineer with whom MIDAC dealt at the time as a client, to verify its accuracy? - the content is available in the Wayback Machine, but my concern was never about accuracy of the content, it was about notability. What I (and the other participants of the AfD - this was not a decision I made alone) were looking for was sources that meet the requirements at WP:ORGCRIT, as all company article are required to have. It's unfortunate that enforcement of this requirement has been lax and thus the article remained untouched from 2007 to 2022, but it is what it is and we are clearly starting to talk past each other. * Pppery * _{it has begun...} 13:25, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
