Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Leokpwong, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Whpq (talk) 20:24, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've cleaned up the page for Steaz, and I believe it will be kept at this point. I guess you can call this a Christmas present from a relatively anonymous Wikipedian. :P

The major problems with the existing article was that 1) The tone of the article sounded promotional (e.g. excessive detail about product listing and the availability of the products / where to purchase them) and 2) the sources cited were press releases from the company itself. Because these sources are not independent of the subject, they are not appropriate to use to establish the notability of the company.

I am glad you have restricted yourself to asking questions about how to improve the page and participating civilly at the deletion discussion. That said, I would highly recommend not involving yourself or anyone else associated with Steaz in maintaining the article, unless it is for noncontroversial changes (i.e. vandalism, fixing spelling and grammar errors, making edits agreed to on the talk page of the article, etc.). There are obvious problems with trying to minimize bias in Wikipedia articles if people involved within a given business are actively editing their own articles. Companies are motivated to publically represent themselves in the best possible light and often try to use Wikipedia articles as another way to sell or get the word out about their products. But Wikipedia is not for promotion and we don't necessarily censor bad press on companies, either.

Anyway, I do encourage you to edit Steaz according to the guidelines above, and to help contribute to Wikipedia. Thanks, I, Jethrobot drop me a line (note: not a bot!) 19:28, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jethrobot, I hope this is the correct way to thank you. I read your User Page and it said I should respond on my talk page so that is what I am trying to do. I do, of course, work for Steaz but was only brought in after the initial article was published. I have told the original contributor (who I believe has been blocked anyway) the COI rules and can assure you that no one from our company will attempt to edit this page. I guess the community will support it if the community deems it supportable. I don't really understand the Wikipedia community but am encouraged by your selfless actions to fix our page. I will see if there is a way I can contribute to Wikipedia. Thanks for being a good Santa!
