Conflict of interest in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi LindaJulian. I spend time working on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia, along with my regular editing. I am not an administrator.

Lots of people come to Wikipedia with some sort of conflict of interest and are not aware of how the editing community defines and manages conflict of interest. I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

Information icon Hello, LindaJulian. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.

Comments and requests

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. Unmanaged conflicts of interest can also lead to people behaving in ways that violate our behavioral policies and cause disruption in the normal editing process. Managing conflict of interest well, also protects conflicted editors themselves - please see WP:Wikipedia is in the real world, and Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia for some guidance and stories about people who have brought bad press upon themselves through unmanaged conflict of interest editing.

As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. It appears that you are editing under your real name (not clear, but perhaps). However here in Wikipedia disclosures of relevant external relationships must be made explicitly. Would you please reply, and disclose any connection you have with Kartenz? After you respond (and you can just reply below), if it is relevant I can walk you through how the "peer review" part happens and then, if you like, I can provide you with some more general orientation as to how this place works. Please reply here, just below, to keep the discussion in one place. Thanks! Jytdog (talk) 15:29, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

moved here, from comment left at my talk page in this diff Jytdog (talk) 15:41, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nice to know you Jytdog, I swear there's no undisclosed payments, WP:COI or WP:PAID for me to write an article on Wikipedia, I just learn to write a good article from a knowledge around me, that's it. so please help me to learn and make it happen, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LindaJulian (talkcontribs) 15:39, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please answer the question -- please disclose any connection you have with Kartenz. Please reply here, just below. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 15:43, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I wrote about Kartenz, because I thought it was good to start learning to write an article, from a new studio, if I wrote about a studio that was large or well known, then my writing would certainly not be accepted.
That does not answer the question. Please disclose any relationship you have with Kartenz. You might want to re-read my note above -- there is a place in Wikipedia for people with a conflict of interest. Some people try to avoid disclosing out of some fear of consequences, but we are not going to throw you out of here if you disclose. It will just need to be managed. Unmanaged conflict of interest is a problem. Jytdog (talk) 15:56, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation, if it's true I will not be throwed. Seriously, I wasn't paid for Kartenz, so maybe I could say my relationship could be a friend or family.
This is the last time I will ask. Please disclose any connection you have with Kartenz. It is a simple question. Please answer it. Jytdog (talk) 16:33, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A family, two founders of Kartenz was my family, so I know them very well, I hope that can answer all questions, thank you Jytdog for your help.
Thanks for disclosing that. I do not believe that you are fully disclosing your relationship with the company. I have no more to say here. Jytdog (talk) 16:58, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Jytdog, they are really my family.
Ms. Julian, as a followup are you employed by Kartenz, or do you hold any position within the firm? Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 17:01, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Shock Brigade Harvester Boris, nice to know you, my relationship with Kartenz as a family from the founders, not employed or hold any position, thank you.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Akbar de Wighar, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
