Hello Wikipedia Admin,

I'd like to create an entry for the company MediResource and I have read, understood, and will abide by all the necessary guidelines and policies regarding this. However, I am unclear about my username "MediResource". Is it OK for me to have the company name as my username as I will abide by all Wikipedia content policies/rules? Please notify me on mytalk page. Thank you!  :)

This is just an username, so it's ok. Martial BACQUET 17:52, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But I plan to create an entry about the company MediResource, so it's OK still?MediResource 17:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I invite you to read Wikipedia:Username policy Martial BACQUET 18:00, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

creating a page

[edit]

Hi MediResource. I saw your question about creating an article about the company MediResource (which I assume is you, or your employer). First off, I appreciate that you are being open about it. It is very easy for a PR goon to create an account "Joe Smith" and create an article that aggrandizes the company or employer.

  • Advertising will generally get deleted.
  • There has to be some reason ("notability") for the company to have an encyclopedia article about it. The Encyclopedia Britanica doesn't have an article about "Joe's Diner" across the street, but maybe it does have an article about IBM or Lloyd's of London.
  • I suggest you create the initial article right here, in your "User Space". Edit your User page to have the link [[MediResource|MediResource, the Company]]; then click that link to create and edit the page. Explain why your company is notable, cite external references (such as newspaper articles), etc. Then you can ask at the new users' help page, "I've written an article about my company, does it meet Wiki's guidelines for notability and objectivity? I'd appreciate any advice." I think this way you are more likely to get help, instead of opposition. Then when the article is good, you can move it to Article Space by putting a link in another article, e.g. a list of medical resource companies.

Good luck. Pete St.John 17:54, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for your reply Mr. St. John. I appreciate your advice. MediResource 17:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome, but in general, reply at the other person's talk page, they may not be watching yours. (That can make conversations here very strange: your talk page as "What's your favorite color?" and "42"; the other person's has "red" and "What is your favorite number?" :-) Pete St.John 21:37, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional usernames

[edit]

Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. :) I'm afraid that Promotional usernames are considered inappropriate according to Wikipedia:Username policy: "Usernames that match the name of a company or group, especially if the user promotes it." It would be preferable for you to register under a different name. --Moonriddengirl 18:16, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So I should change my username? I read the Username Policy, which is why I posted my question in the first place, but it isn't very clear as I do not intend to use wikipedia for "promotional" purposes. I intend to abide by all Wikipedia content policies/guidelines. If keeping my current username doesn't violate any rules, I'd prefer not to change it. What do you think? MediResource 19:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since that is a company name, you should not use it. Don't use MedResouse, either. Google all the names you would like, and check to make sure it is not a company name. Any one that fallows the rules will be fine. just think of a user name you would like, Google it, and make sure it fallows the rules. Happy hunting! MindstormsKid 19:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on MediResource, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Corvus cornix 19:14, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are a number of problems with the article. The first is your conflict of interest in creating the page. The second is the ad-speak tone of the article, including the "mission statement" and the rah-rah nature of the language. The third is the lack of reliable third-party sources which prove your company's notability. Corvus cornix 19:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid argument. Please discuss the current article only. Corvus cornix 19:56, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since you insist on recreating your spam, I have listed this at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MediResource. You should not have re-created the article after it was deleted. Instead, you should have followed the WP:DRV route, but since you insist on spamming Wikipedia, we'll let others discuss this for five days and then see if they think it should be deleted.
