Request for Feedback

[edit]

Hello, I am trying to improve the article Hamparsum Limonciyan. I made a request for feedback Wikipedia:Requests_for_feedback. Any pointers you might have as to what the article needs would be appreciated. --Free smyrnan 08:51, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance

[edit]

Hey Mustafa, would you be willing to participate in helping a fellow administrator on English wiki (and mapping person) with his request for administrator status on Commons? If so, the voting is HERE. Thanks! Rarelibra 15:08, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: AFDs and nominator's behaviour

[edit]

Actually, looking at her contributions, she has been posting some rather incivil things about me on various talk and user talk pages. I am leaving {{npa3}} on her user talk page. If she continues soapboxing in general, feel free to report her on WP:ANI so administrators can decide what to do. --Coredesat 06:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

just a reminder

[edit]

There is a group of templates, which are also located in commons. I would like to give you the link Template:Navbox generic with image

I was working on the Istanbul (GA nominee). I took the incentive to organize all the templates in that page with the same format. If we use (choose the one you like) these advance templates it generates problems. Also standardization makes the page look good.

Check the one I worked on: {{Districts of Istanbul}} OttomanReference 08:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will support anyone who has guts to take such a task. Just inform me if you need anything, but the time :-) OttomanReference 08:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Give me some time to thinker about. OttomanReference 17:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking something more efficient. With the current from you have to generate the list (if it has 29 sub, it will be repeated 29 times) for every sub page. I was thinking something, I will show you, give me some time. --OttomanReference 17:31, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the data within the template. This way you do not have to repeat the same districts when you move the navigation template under each template. Do I need to open up the concept? I guess switch statement is not too complex. Depending on the province name switch puts the correct data. --OttomanReference 18:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The rest is a hard work. If you finish it, it will be appreciated widely.OttomanReference 18:12, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

check the page Ayvalık, when you go down on the sub-pages the title seems to be broken down. I guess pagename only works at the main (district) page. It might be a good idea to take the name from the template variable. This way at the sub pages the title will point to the corect district name. --OttomanReference 18:28, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought you are improving the template {{Districts of Istanbul}}. The districts page collects all the articles in that district with an easy navigation tool. Look at "what links here" for {{Districts of Istanbul}}, you will notice that that template is helping users to navigate from Avcılar to bostanci or if they want to see the (higher level) province of Avcılar they click on the main title and it takes then from Avcılar to istanbul province. That is the reason I thought It would save a lot of effort if you collect subs under the main template so that it will not repeat the same information for each sub page (such as etlik). Thanks--OttomanReference 18:45, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a single point; KISS (keep it simple) if you begin to put templates in templates (not technologically) visually things would get complex, and no one will use it. I have even reservations for the second template; My point: if it does not add any functionality why we do not concentrate on simple text. It is easy to read.OttomanReference 22:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nakhichevan

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your contribution. Clevelander is a good editor, but for some reason he tries to get HRW quote deleted from the article, which I find unacceptable. I hope to resolve the issue by discussion on the talk of the article. Your input will also be appreciated. Regards, Grandmaster 08:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The HRW quote wasn't the only reason for my recent revert. Check the Nakhichevan edit history, Mustafa and you'll see that User:Naxcivani made an outright effort to cleanse the article of all its Armenian information. I and several other editors (including Grandmaster) worked hard to bring this article to where it is now. -- Clevelander 11:36, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much :) Chaldean 18:37, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yeni district template için

[edit]

Ok, I have been noticing that problem with characters as well. I think that the best long-term solution would be to download them and upload them again with the correct characters. I will do some research in the commons and get back later tonight. Nice work with the district template by the way :) Cheers! Baristarim 13:20, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TfD nomination of Template:Districts of Turkey

[edit]

Template:Districts of Turkey has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. --Gene Nygaard 12:14, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't it be better to first exchange the "image" against the "sortkey" parameter in the articles and then in the template? Right now, it breaks quite a number of things, it seems. Fut.Perf. 21:07, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Stop, wait! Don't make any more changes now. The "image" and the "sortkey" parameters must remain separate. "image" is a simplified version of the province name, right? "sortkey" must be the simplified version of the page name itself, of the town or district! Fut.Perf. 21:20, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, do you really want the template to put every single district directly into the main Category:Turkey? That's really redundant, if it's also in one of its subcategories. Normally a page shouldn't be in a parent category and a daughter category at the same time. Fut.Perf. 21:45, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right now I'm quite frustrated. Somehow we messed something up big style, and now if you look at Category:Provinces of Turkey, most provinces (but not all, apparently randomly) are sorted chaotically under "{". I must have made some error with the parser functions code, but I can't find it. Fut.Perf. 22:12, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see that there is some logic to having on e template for each province. With that in mind could you change the design so that

  • a) the top line just contains the title e.g. The province of Amasya in the blue bar with the Turkish flag.
  • b) then comes a sub heading district
  • c) then the list of districts with the merkez ilcesi in bold or if there is a buyuksehir then separate lists of buyuksehir ilceleri' and others (the previous district listing style was fine)
  • then a heading Provinces of Turkey
  • d) a list of the 81 provinces in alphabetical order.
  • and finally a heading saying 'Geographical egions of Turkey'
  • e) a list of your 7 regions,

The maps can sit on the right as they are at the moment but you need to put the district map at the top, then the province map of Turkey, then the regional map. I tried to get the title line to just contain the name of the province - with horrible effects - My apologies, this is wiki-editing beyond my capability. :(

But congratulations to everyone, including Mustafa Akalp, for trying to improve content about Turkey on wikipedia Istanbuljohnm 10:20, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hrant Dink

[edit]

Hello! I understand the concern the death of Hrant Dink has brought to you. That is why I am just leaving a reminder that fair use images should be used exclusively in the article namespace while, in other situations, I would have removed it. After a prudential time, please consider just linking to his article, as keeping the image in your user page may encourage others to do the same and, while it is a good tribute, it goes against one of our core policies. Thank you, and stay safe. -- ReyBrujo 18:11, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup templates

[edit]

Best not to subst these (merge, wikify, cleanup, orphan). See WP:SUBST for details. Rich Farmbrough, 21:18 22 January 2007 (GMT).

Hi

[edit]

You have doing impressive work with the infoboxes and the districts template - keep it up!! I am really sorry that I haven't had the time to help out more. There are so many things to be taken care of and I have been running from place to place!! By the way, can you keep an eye on Turkey for a while? A user is insisting on adding a paragraph in to the culture that basically says that Turkish youth are following in the footsteps of the Nazis.. Talk to you soon!
