Chavez

[edit]

"I am sorry that you feel that legitimate criticism about a communist President is nonsence. America has elected Communists to office as our President too. A communist can be the head of a Republic. Communist is the basis of governemtn rule, not Dictatorship. The people of Venezuela appear to want to live in a Communist State. That's Okay for them. But it does not make it nonsense."

I don't feel that criticism of Chavez, or calling a spade a spade, is nonsense at all. But, if you want to make effective and lasting additions to Wiki, you'll need to do it in a way that conforms to Wiki policies and pillars. I hope you'll join in. Sandy 03:26, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your latest Chavez edit might find a place on Criticism of Hugo Chavez, if you work each portion sensibly into the text, if the statements are referenced, and taking care of context around it. We've been hard at work restoring the article, and you added text right into the middle of a work in progress. Copying the text removed by WGee, to here, so that you can review the best place to locate it: however, I'm still pulling together the Criticism article, and I do think most of this is already covered there. If you spend some time reviewing talk pages, your efforts might be more productive. Again, welcome, Sandy 03:34, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to the United States CIA, Hugo Chavez's administration is guilty of weakening the democratic institutions, political polarization, a politicized military, drug-related violence along the Colombian border, increasing internal drug consumption, overdependence on the petroleum industry with its price fluctuations, and irresponsible mining operations that are endangering the rain forest and indigenous peoples. [1]

Why would it be necesary to have a separate article for Chavez Criticism? The Hugo Chavez article is already noted as Unbalanced, showing that man in far to nice of a light.

Just a note to remember to sign your talk page entries with four tildes (~), so we know who made them :-)
I agree with you that it casts him in favorable terms, but consensus is key on Wiki, and others disagree. In theory, a separate criticism article shouldn't be needed. But, when I got involved with the article it was already way too long, and was nothing but glowing praise for Chavez. Attempting to balance the article (by adding criticism) resulted in bloating the article to about three times what is recommended on Wiki. The article got reverted to a six-month old version, and we're trying to recover. I have been consolidating all of the criticism in one place, so that we can use Summary Style and bring everything back to the main article, hopefully more balanced. In other words, your criticism is most welcome, but if you read the talk pages you'll see we're in the midst of trying to rebuild the article. I think I've covered most of what the CIA site said on the Criticism article, and once we get everything pulled together and referenced, then we'll make sure the main article is balanced. I hope this makes sense to you: your edits are welcome, it's just a matter of timing, and making constructive, referenced edits. And, calling Castro a blood thirsty murderous dictator makes your edits appear as vandalism, and will get your edits reverted even by people like me who may agree with you :-) Even if it may be true, it's not an encyclopedic statement.
