Welcome

[edit]

Hello, MaxHall1994, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Blocked

[edit]
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 48 hours for using multiple accounts to re-create the deleted article about yourself. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Hersfold (t/a/c) 06:36, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So I realize that things are kinda not going your way right now, what with the page being deleted and your accounts being blocked. I would like to assure you that this is nothing personal against you; however, Wikipedia does have a number of policies and guidelines and such that are in place to protect the quality of our content and ensure things remain in order. I've blocked you because you've ended up violating several of them. I'm sure that it wasn't your intention to do so, and your intentions here do seem to be constructive, so I'd like to explain some of the issues that led to this.
  • Conflicts of interest and autobiographies - First, we really really prefer that people not write about subjects they are closely related to; themselves, their companies, close friends, etc. This creates a conflict of interest, which can make it difficult for the editor to apply our policies and guidelines appropriately and could cause them to have an improper sense of "ownership" about the article. If you are notable enough to merit an article, more than likely someone else will add an article about you soon enough.
  • Deletion policies - There are a number of criteria which could lead to a page being deleted. Some of these are very clear-cut, and any page meeting one of those criteria can be deleted on sight by any administrator. Others are less clear, and may require a discussion amongst the community at Articles for Deletion (or AFD). Regardless of the cause, once a page is deleted, it should not be re-created unless the issues that led to its deletion have been resolved. In this case, your recreation of your article at Maxwell C. Hall was more-or-less the same as the article previously at Maxwell C Hall, which the community determined should be deleted. Recreation of an article deleted through AFD is one of our speedy criteria, and so I've deleted that page as well.
  • Use of multiple accounts - While the use of multiple accounts can be allowed - I myself have about half a dozen that regularly edit - there are very strict rules on how those extra accounts can be used. In general, these accounts should be publicly declared, and they should never be used in a manner which allows the user to evade scrutiny or create a false impression of greater support for an issue. In your case, you created User:ILoveWiki955 to speak against deletion of the first article at the AFD discussion, then created User:AlexTJ86 to recreate it. Both of these actions are unacceptable, and the primary reason for your block. Both of the other accounts have been blocked indefinitely.
I don't want to discourage you from editing, as you do appear to be very enthusiastic about contributing to Wikipedia, but I would advise that you take some time reading through our policies (particularly the ones I've linked to above) in order to gain a little better understanding of how things work around here. I would also strongly advise that you not attempt to recreate any further articles about yourself, but instead seek out some other area of interest to contribute to. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page once your block is lifted or expires, or you can add the {{helpme}} template to this page along with your question and someone will come by to answer it. If you have read through our policies and would like to be unblocked before 48 hours have passed, use the {{unblock}} template as instructed in your block message. Anyway, I hope that you do continue to edit here, and I wish you well with whatever you end up doing. Hersfold (t/a/c) 07:02, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
