Living parameter in Wikiproject Biography
[edit]Hey, I noticed that a few of your articles about Missourian politicians showed up in Category:Biography articles without living parameter. There's a user script called User:Evad37/rater that semi-automates the addition of the "living" parameter. Also, User:BattyBot is supposed to do it at least some of the time, but I guess it doesn't catch everything. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 19:12, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- @I dream of horses: Hi there! I have never written an article about a Missourian politician. Which articles about Missourian politicians do you think are my articles? I haven't run BattyBot since my PC died in April. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 04:24, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty Sorry, I misread the dates on the BattyBots' contributions page. The rest was directed at Mccapra. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 04:26, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- @I dream of horses: And apologies to you for missing where you wrote this post. I was just about to revert my response when you replied. GoingBatty (talk) 04:27, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

Deletion of Wiki Page
[edit]RE: Wikipedia page for Joël André Ornstein https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Joël_André_Ornstein_(2nd_nomination)
Dear Contributor,
I am writing about the proposed deletion for Mr. Ornstein's Wikipedia page and acknowledge that the page has not been updated for over 11 years. I would appreciate the opportunity to revise and improve it by adding more recent, relevant content supported by reliable sources and I am committed to ensuring that the page aligns with Wikipedia’s notability standards.
I welcome any feedback on how I can enhance the article further. Could you also advise me on the best way to proceed with these updates to avoid deletion?
Thank you in advance for your consideration and guidance.
Heather
P.S. Please note that I am the previous assistant to Mr. Ornstein, but I am assisting him with fixing the current Wiki issues. I was the one that initially created the page, and I do not believe that it has been updated since then (I worked with Mr. Ornstein from 2005 - 2021). Hlbrooks (talk) 18:45, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Hlbrooks: hi thanks for your message. The article was deleted by consensus a month ago. You can ask an admin to restore it for you - I can’t do that I’m afraid - but if you message User:Asilvering or User:HouseBlaster one of them will be able to help you. - Thank you so much for your reply and the information. I will reach out to the Admins. :) Hlbrooks (talk) 20:07, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Hlbrooks, can you show us sources that would qualify as significant, independent, secondary coverage on this person? (See WP:GNG) -- asilvering (talk) 20:11, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi asilvering, thank you for your message. I was in another page preparing a message for you, so perfect timing. :)
- I only became aware of the deletion today. I no longer work with Mr. Onrstein, but I am helping him with this matter. I only mention this because I need to do some research and put together all of the information. I have a copy of the original page that was deleted from the Wayback Machine.
- I think the best way to proceed is to put it all together, links, etc and then revert back to this thread. Is that okay? Also, if there is anything additional that you think I should keep in mind when compiling the data let me know. Otherwise, I will go through the information on Wikipedia and follow the guidelines. Again, thank you all for your assistance. Hlbrooks (talk) 20:17, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Hlbrooks I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "revert back to this thread". What you can do if you want to recreate the article is make a draft at Draft:Joël André Ornstein and work there - but I wouldn't recommend doing that. Better would be to gather some good sources that you think were overlooked in the discussion before you start any kind of rewriting, since if it turns out that the deletion discussion was correct and there are no further useful sources, I don't want you to have wasted your time trying to rewrite the article. -- asilvering (talk) 20:28, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- I meant that I would revert back to this thread to supply you with the additional sources/links that I gather. I can see now what I wrote above was not clear. I will put sources/links together and post them back here once ready. Thank you. Hlbrooks (talk) 20:32, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. On wikipedia, "revert" has a very specific meaning: it describes the action of undoing an edit. If you use that word here in any other context, you're likely to confuse us. -- asilvering (talk) 20:38, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- See, I am not very tech savvy on Wikipedia. :) Hlbrooks (talk) 20:42, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- I have recreated the page in Draft mode, as the previous version was quite outdated. Given that I haven’t worked with Wiki in over ten years, I wanted to take this opportunity to learn and reacquaint myself with the procedures. It was fun, though I found myself a bit confused regarding the distinction between References and External Links. I believe I may need to add more items to the References section. Could you please take a look at what I've created and let me know if I'm on the right track? I would appreciate any guidance on what else I might need to include to get the page reinstated. Here is the Draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Joël_André_Ornstein#Jo%C3%ABl_Andr%C3%A9_Ornstein
- Additionally, I encountered an issue while trying to upload an image and a PDF for the bio, receiving the error message below. I would like to resolve this so I can continue contributing to Wiki in the future, as I really enjoyed the process :)
- Automated filter Special:AbuseFilter/281
- Commons no longer allows new users to upload PDF files.
- This decision was reached because by far most attempted uploads of PDFs by new users turned out to be either copyright violations or out of scope. If you were not the original file designer or photographer, that original creator may need to provide an appropriate license on their official website or public-facing social media, or may send the file and permission via VRT with a carbon copy to you.
- If you cannot get a compliant license, it is possible that the file may still be uploaded to the relevant wiki in compliance with their local rules. If this upload is your own work, or is someone else's appropriately licensed work, and is within Commons' scope, please go to the page Commons:Abuse filter and click the report an issue with an abuse filter button near the top of the page.
- To discuss PDFs, and their relevance to WikiCommons, please start a new thread at Commons:Village pump. Hlbrooks (talk) 18:08, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Hlbrooks, so that we're not taking up Mccapra's user talk page, can you start a talk page for the draft instead? Thanks. -- asilvering (talk) 18:17, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Completed. I tagged you in the talk/page. Thank you! Hlbrooks (talk) 18:20, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Help on Johnny Partin
[edit]hello i was wondering if the edit i just made on the page im creating Johnny Partin is better for the copyright issue i had because i reworded everything that is now in the artical and i wanted to know if its better
Paytonisboss (talk) 19:35, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Paytonisboss: hi if you scroll down on this link you can see which pieces of text you still need to reword in order to remove that issue. Keeping quotes as they are is fine though. My issue when I reviewed the page wasn’t copyright however, it was whether the subject is notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. Mccapra (talk) 21:57, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Mccapra Thank you for explaining however its been a hot topic around where i live specifically in the Tri-Cities, Virginia area so thats why im making it many people at my workplace who arent wikipedia editors were asking me if i could make a page about it however i still view this as its not relivent to the majoraty of viewers so i get why you did what you did Paytonisboss (talk) 22:03, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Notability of Kurdistan Islamic Relations Movement
[edit]I don't really get what the problem is. Sure, it's not a big party, but neither are, for example Mieterpartei, Socialist Equality Party (Germany) or WiR2020. The page cites an article by Rûdaw, the largest news network in Iraqi Kurdistan, which has published numerous articles specifically about the party (proof). Most examples in Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) are talking about companies, there aren't really specifications for what makes a party notable. But there clearly is significant coverage, the coverage is independent, there are multiple sources (even if not that many since it's a stub). So yeah, explain to me how I can convince you of the notability. - Ermanarich (talk) 11:33, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- hi thanks for your message. Generally, if a party is contesting elections, the benchmark for notability is whether it has succeeded in getting anyone elected. This party won <1% of the vote so is nowhere near that. Recycled press releases saying it was founded, held a congress or elevated a leader don’t make it notable. It is possible that much wider and more extensive press coverage could make it notable, but I don’t see that at the moment. All the best Mccapra (talk) 11:08, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- As I said, there are numerous articles on Wikipedia of parties that haven't got anyone elected. Furthermore, the project page on notability doesn't mention getting a candidate elected is a benchmark for notability.--Ermanarich (talk) 22:52, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Lezgistan is a state of one people (Lezgins). Lekia (also known as the Lakz, and this is a more correct name) is a state of 10 different peoples (Aghuls, Rutuls, Tsakhurs, Budukhs, Khinalughs, Tabasarans, etc.). Why did you delete my edit and redirect (Lekia -> Lezgistan)?
The state of Lekia (Lakz) was mainly located on the territories of modern Russia and Azerbaijan. Lezgistan (the conventional name of the Lezgin state) was located on the territory of modern Russia. In the Russian and Azerbaijani Wikipedias, there are two separate articles for these terms: ru-wikipedia: (ru-1) Лакз(=Лекия)/Lakz(=Lekia) and (ru-2) Лезгистан/Lezgistan; az-wikipedia: (az-1) Leq_çarlığı (Lakz) and (az-2) Ləzgistan)
- hi thanks for your message. I redirected the article not because I thought the two subject were the same, but because the Lekia article wasn’t properly sourced. It needs inline citations throughout, relating the sources you’ve provided to the individual statements in the article. I’m afraid it is not ready for encyclopedia mainspace without that. If you wish I can move it to draftspace so you can add inline citations and when that’s done I can re-publish it. Mccapra (talk) 07:53, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! OK, please move it to draftspace. DigitalSpace (talk) 07:58, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Done and there’s now a link to it from your talk page. Mccapra (talk) 08:03, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
