Welcome to Wikipedia from Danno uk

[edit]

Hi, Melissaleeb. I welcome you to Wikipedia! Thank you for all of your edits. I hope you like editing here and being part of Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); when you save the page, this will turn into your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or put {{helpme}} (and what you need help with) on your talk page and someone will show up very soon to answer your questions. Again, welcome! danno 19:25, 14 September 2011 (UTC) Melissaleeb (talk) 19:43, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

hello danno. I didn't really mean to go public with this but now I'm scrambling to get it all right. How do I make the blue index box? is there a tool?

Hey Melissa. If you mean the little box below the intro with the sections in it then just make the section titles into section headers by adding == at the start and the end of the word/phrase that you want to make a section title. The little box thing auto-generates when you have those. danno 20:01, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melissaleeb (talk) 20:07, 14 September 2011 (UTC)were those equal signs? I tried it, and it just showed up as equal signs.[reply]

2 equals signs (no more no less) at the beginning and the end. danno 20:15, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melissaleeb (talk) 20:19, 14 September 2011 (UTC)I think I'm getting close. Should have "sandboxed" it. Am I getting close?[reply]

Ha ha, you're a natural! You can create articles away from public gaze either by doing it on your user page or talk page or ideally by creating a page called User:Melissaleeb/Sandbox (click on that, write some stuff and you have your own private play area) and then you can stop nosey people like me from messing about with your article before you've finished it. Now you've released it there's not a lot that you can do. The upside is there's a good chance that other people will come along and help you out. There's a bunch of useful stuff on these pages:

I've always found that going to articles that you like and wondering "how did they do that?" is best solved by clicking the edit button on that page and just looking at what the underlying wikitext actually looks like. And then basically stealing it for your own use. Works for me! danno 20:30, 14 September 2011 (UTC) Melissaleeb (talk) 21:14, 14 September 2011 (UTC)have to quite for today, but I'm hoping I got it together enough they let it live.[reply]

Would you mind if I made some edits in the interim to fully "wikify" it? No content changes (I don't know enough about the group), but I'm happy to tidy up some rough edges in terms of formatting. As it stands though, it would live of its own accord. It's a decent article, the tag is just about formatting. Unless you've lifted the text from a copyrighted source then no-one would have any reason to delete it because you've referenced it so well. danno 21:24, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melissaleeb (talk) 02:36, 15 September 2011 (UTC)sure. I don't know what HTML links need changed. I think I got the guide and internal links going. That would be fine. Don't want it to be taken down.[reply]

Okay, I've tidied the external links part, added an infobox that you can add more stuff to if you want (although I'd be wary about adding the entire list of former members as then the infobox would take over the whole article!) and removed the wikify tag (which is just a note to editors that the article needs attention, not a warning of imminent deletion). So as far as I can see you're all good to go, and stop worrying about it getting deleted, I don't see any reason for it to be and I'm one of the editors that looks after recent changes and I nominate articles for deletion all the time so I have a fairly good idea what qualifies and what doesn't! It's a good article, well done. danno 18:20, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see you found the Reflinks tool. Awesome for lazy referencers! danno 19:14, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melissaleeb (talk) 20:20, 15 September 2011 (UTC)thank for your help.[reply]

No worries, pleasure. In the unlikely event that you need a hand in the future give me a shout on my talk page. I'll leave you in peace and stop watching yours now. Just one last tip, write something, anything, even just hello on your user page. Simply because it stops your name showing up in red on the recent changes log and those red bits are what attracts more attention than anything else. Editors with blue names slide under the radar unmolested (and save us unnecessary page reviews). Cheers danno 20:54, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Melissaleeb (talk) 20:37, 15 September 2011 (UTC)hello danno uk, I made another page called Dave Flippo It has a message on top, but I think I fixed it. How does that page look? Thanks. Time to go back to work.[reply]

Yup, someone added that before you wielded your reflinks magic wand. You're free to delete it. Also, add the four tildes thing at the end of your comments rather than the beginning or people will think that you're a bit eccentric ;) danno 20:54, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
