Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Eastern Coach Works, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Unitary authorities

[edit]

In terms of North Yorkshire Council/North Yorkshire County Council what do you think about City of York Council/York City Council? Unlike the 2023 changes the 1996 changes make it clear that a new "York" district is formed with different boundaries and is a different legal entity. The area of the new district is 271.9 compared with only 28.37 for the old district. Do you think we should have separate articles for the York city council that existed until 1996 (being reformed in 1974 with the same boundaries) and the new one that has existed from 1996? In terms of the debate about if the county councils should be split or not and if we should have separate articles on the likes of North Yorkshire (district), even though a few years ago I pushed to have separate articles for unitary districts with the same name as ceremonial counties I am starting to think it might just be better to also keep single articles for district and ceremonial county. North Yorkshire would probably be enough to discuss the ceremonial county and unitary district and North Yorkshire Council discussing the 1974-2023 and 2023-current council. In terms of if North Yorkshire County Council should be separate I'd point out that all district councils like Telford and Wrekin Council and Peterborough City Council that (unlike York) were promoted to also cover county functions do not have separate articles for when they didn't preform county functions (also I question if such articles should be merged with the districts) so I'd also say it makes more sense to have North Yorkshire Council also cover the time before it also preformed district functions. Note that we do have an article at Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire which is probably the ceremonial county's legislature. The likes of Dorset/Dorset (district) and Dorset County Council/Dorset Council (UK) are different as they cover/covered different areas and were different legal entities. Cumberland/Cumberland (unitary authority) is also different but I did support merging that. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:41, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
