Rajanikant Kannada transliteration

Dear All, Rajnikant was born in Bangalore and acted in Kannada plays/dramas/stageshows before moving to Tamil Cinema. He knew only Kannada and Marathi(Mother tongue) and he learnt tamil after moving to chennai. He is no doubt belongs to Kannadigas as well tamil. Hope this clears question of kannada transliteration in the literature. Rajnikant may be the name given by tamil director but the person roots are from Karnataka hence transliteration in kannada will not impair the reputation of the person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indian born (talkcontribs) 19:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid Rajini's repute was gained in the Tamil film industry, and that is the primary reason why his name is not given in any other language. (In fact, his roots are in Maharashtra, not Bangalore). Lynch7 19:17, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Why my pages are tagged for deleting again and again..why User:Abhishek191288 is demoting me again and again..???

Dear Sir, Recently I have created an article about my engineering college that is I.E.T. M.J.P. Rohilkhand University.. which is made fully by me with help of the website of my college.... all the pictures used by me in the page are taken by me and registered... On which criteria user:Abhishek191288 is tagging my page again and again for deletion..?? You can compare my article and its each n every line with the page M.J.P. Rohilkhand University. I have also tried to add some photos in that page M.J.P. Rohilkhand University which were remooved by the administrator of that page again & again.. Thats why i finally decided to make the page of my college myself..As i want to introduce and edit my college myself in my ways..as direction is given to me by My Professor.. I want to create my own page OF MY OWN COLLEGE which i can edit myself and by discussing with the college pannel and my supporting team... I am concidering this act of User:Abhishek191288 as demoting to me... As I know much better about my college than User:Abhishek191288...........

Well Utkarsh, I don't think Abhishek meant any malice. I'm sure he was just trying to guide you in the right direction; you are new to Wikipedia, we understand that. In this process of familiarizing yourself with Wikipedia's policies, it is but natural that some of these notices end up on your talkpage; indeed, we all went through that phase. Please keep a cool head. After some days of editing, you will learn more about policies, and about what exactly makes a good article. It is unnecessary for you, or anyone else to be offended. Lynch7 16:40, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

I'm confused! I don't seem to understand the difference between I.E.T. M.J.P. Rohilkhand University and M.J.P. Rohilkhand University. When I googled for IET, Bareilly, I found this which is the university website. And google search for M.J.P. Rohilkhand University also results in the same. Which is why I tagged it under A10. Please correct me if I'm wrong. —  Abhishek  Talk 16:51, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, I'm perplexed as well. Hmm, gotta look at this a bit more deeply. Lynch7 16:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
In any case, it looks like a clear copyvio. See [1]. Lynch7 16:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah just noticed the copyvio. —  Abhishek  Talk 17:00, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

about mjpru

Sir,

As about the matter and the data i used in it..it is from my university site... And If I m going to rewrite the same data on ly own language it would be same as the original.. and My professor and my college commitee team said me to get the information from the website of university..it clearly means that My administration allows me to get the information about college from the college website..i would like to tell you one more thing that..The Institute Of Engineering & Technology is A part of university campus..of MJP rohilkhand university.. and the engineering courses are run by the name of I.E.T. MJPRU.. thus there is a need of a page which can describe the various departmeants and faculties of I.E.T. MJPRU... My university also runs some other courses such as Law, B.ed Etc...thus i wanted to create an other page which can describe perfectly about the Engineering Faculty of MJP rohilkhand university...

I dont want to loose this page..if there is any way to save this page from deletion please tell me.. My administration allows me to get the information about college from the college website..

Very well, since you insist, you should ask the legal authority in your university to follow the steps listed at Wikipedia:Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries, and mail it to the email address listed there. Lynch7 18:02, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Already discussed

Mike, the change has already discussed. Since Tejas is the "The world's lightest supersonic fighter jet", It can be reworded from "light modern fighter aircraft" to "The world's lightest supersonic fighter jet". Any objections, Mike?Touchtheskywithglory (talk) 08:51, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes. An aircraft's gross weight is not really a big talking point you see. Fighter jets are classified as 4th Generation, 5th Generation etc. AFAIK, Tejas comes somewhere in between 4th and 5th gen. If you can say with confidence that Tejas is the lightest 4.5 Generation aircraft around, then that would be a better wording. Lynch7 08:56, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Also, in the discussion that you pointed to, there wasn't enough participation, let alone some consensus. Get users to comment, and lets have a good discussion before we can replace the image. Lynch7 08:59, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Actually no one had objection.Seems no one bothered. Else must have seen criticism. If there is objection to the change, let's discuss it and sort it out.Touchtheskywithglory (talk) 09:02, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry, no one had objections? I'm afraid you didn't read MilborneOne's comment properly. Lynch7 09:05, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

A sequence of bad edits from some IPs, but inbetween one of them changed the Kannada spelling of his name that I also reverted (it's an IP within the same range so I'm guessing it fits in with the English edits). Can you check it? cheers.—SpacemanSpiff 18:59, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Its fine now. The IP's spelling was vandalism indeed. Lynch7 19:04, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, someone's apparently already redirected your article to the other one. 2011 Mumbai bombings, as it stands, is going to be the focus article. Mar4d (talk) 15:13, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for signing up for this project. It is a very busy and active project with lots going on and we can always use more help and especially a fresh set of eyes. If you haven't done so already you might want to add Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to your watch list as this is where much of the background discussion occurs. You may also want to watch Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) as this is where newly created articles get listed for peer review. Having a look over these new articles is a great way to get a feel for how things are done on the project and also most new articles need reviewing anyway. If you have any questions you can leave me a note or post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft, either way you will get a quick response. - Ahunt (talk) 19:41, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Request

Hi, I am seeking a mentor to assist me in editing in Wikimedia. Currently, I am facing a problem when I edit [2]. Apparently, the user there does not wish many facts that I have contributed to be publish. He keep deleting my Criticism and remove any external link that I use to justified my contribution. The user is also requesting protection for the page.

1)How do I go into a friendly discussion/debate with the other party? 2)How do I stop the other party from deleting my contribution? 3)I strongly believe that my contribution is supported with facts all over the country, thou not officially available in the web. How do I justified that?

Your advice much appreciated and if your willing to adoption is also greatful.

Thanks. user:Spawn1971 —Preceding undated comment added 04:16, 20 July 2011 (UTC).

Hi Spawn1971, thank you for writing to me. I would be glad to assist you in your editing experience, by adoption or otherwise. I would be happy to adopt you. The answer to your first question is that there is a talk page: Talk:Philippine Overseas Employment Administration I see you have already found it. Open a discussion about the edits you want to make. If there is a serious dispute, you may seek dispute resolution.
In response to your second question, there is less you can do to actually stop others from deleting your contributions, but the best you can do is to try and talk it out with the other person(s). Of course, if the other editor is very unreasonable, he may need warning, or maybe stricter measures.
Answering your third question, First of all, and the most important of those is: "you have to cite sources for the claims you make", and not just sources, reliable sources. Note that the sources need not be on the web; it may be in an encyclopedia, a journal, a newspaper, a reputed magazine, etc. It is not necessary that they are available online. I hope you know how to cite sources. The second point I would like to make is that you should use neutral language, conforming to a neutral point of view. In this case, if you follow these important policies, you should be all right. Lynch7 14:58, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. Base on the article, there is now another party that state my statement has been disputed and the burden of proof is on me. First of all, I find that ridicules as the proof is every where in the Philippines and yet I am need to prove. So now, I am collecting evidences like paper advertisement, scan of receipts, flyers, article from relevant sources. How do I post those jpeg files or links up? And also how do I notify in my contribution and refer it to these documents or link as source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Spawn1971 (talkcontribs) 08:52, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Again, you need not actually scan those stuff and put it up as JPEGs or anything; it is not necessary. You can just quote a book; something like History of Modern India. Bangalore: Bangalore University. 1996. ISBN XXXXXXXXXX. {{cite book}}: Check |isbn= value: invalid form (help). Also, most of the things you mentioned would not be acceptable; stuff like advertisements or flyers would not be reliable sources. You can cite articles in magazines and newspapers. Lynch7 12:29, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
To cite a source, enclose the details of the source in <ref> and </ref> tags. Lynch7 16:16, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Need your help!

Need you help with my first ACC. Link. I see here that it was blocked. Do I defer the request to Check Users? Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 05:12, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Or is the block only for BOTs? Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 05:13, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
Good to see you are on ACC now :) . Anyway, its been a while since I've been there, so I'd be safe and defer to a CU. No harm there in doing that; i've been seeing a lot of requests coming from a proxy like this. You could also ask around on IRC; I'm sure there is no set procedure for dealing with requests like these. Lynch7 05:22, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
You could also ask DeltaQuad, he seems to be online. Lynch7 05:23, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
I guess creating is OK, its been a while since I came on ACC, so unaware of recent developments. Lynch7 06:10, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Sonia Gandhi

Dear Mr. Lynch,

Although I respect your authority here at wikipedia the free encyclopedia. I must contend your statement that the edits I made on the page Sonia Gandhi, were not beneficial(of course, im paraphrasing) to the greater community. Neglecting to emphasize the fact that the Indian Political leader in question has no political background, but instead a background in the hospitality business, would be the American equivalent of failing to mention Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's illustrious career in Body Building and American Cinema. It would simply not be giving the public full information. As a patron user of wikipedia, I understand that one of the underlying goals of this community is to build a network of full and in depth resources for public access. To use my above analogy, neglecting to emphasize this point in the political leaders career would be like erasing the segments on Governor Schwarzenegger's Body Building or Acting Career. Fans of the governor would not be pleased if this segment of his life was nowhere mentioned. Thus, I implore you to rethink your decision to revert my edits on the wikipedia page Sonia Gandhi.

Ambassador Program: assessment drive

Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.

In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.

Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

July 2011

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

In particular, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue edit warring, you may be blocked from editing. Boolyme बूलीमी Chat बोलो!! 20:16, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps you should read what Edit warring is properly before templating. Lynch7 20:21, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
