Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Mikitoruz. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations.

Specific information: You appear to be affiliated with Biodiversity-Base Economy Development :BEDO (Thailand), as you have added external links to many fish articles. On English Wikipedia, non-English websites should generally not be listed as External Links, especially when equivalent English resources are already cited (please see WP:NONENGEL for more information), and this can be construed as spamming, even if the links are to a non-profit educational organization like BEDO. --Animalparty-- (talk) 21:14, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mikitoruz, may I reinforce the above? The link to BEDO is basically pointless when all that can be found there is already contained in the text, as seems to be the case in every article I have seen so far where you have added it. In addition, the added images do generally seem to be just lesser quality repeat versions of the page image, and in any case shouldn't be stuck at the very bottom of the article. I have removed these changes from a number of articles now. Elmidae (talk) 19:51, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fish stubs[edit]

Hallo and thank you for your work in adding new articles to Wikipedia.

Please remember that every article needs to start with a sentence telling the reader what the topic is, which we call a "lead". Please also consider adding categories which show the genus of the fish, rather than simply the "Fish of Thailand" category. See my changes to Polynemus multifilis and Parascolopsis eriomma. Thanks. PamD 10:48, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your fish articles.[edit]

However.... would I be able to give you some advice about writing articles? All articles should have a short summary, and I can see you are trying to do so, but you don't need to write a new section after every sentence, and you don't need any new sections, except for references and external links, for a very short article. Also always try to add links where possible. I've added one to your Coradion altivelis article and also done a small grammar cleanup. Also in English both names of the fish are in capital letters. Anyway I thank you for your contributions and if you have any queries please ask me. Huddsblue (talk) 11:53, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Have you heard about the project on Wikipedia devoted to animals?[edit]

There will be some very experienced editors there who I'm sure would be happy to help you in any way. Here is the link: Wikipedia:WikiProject Animals Huddsblue (talk) 12:08, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Chlorurus strongylocephalus[edit]

Hi, I'm Goblins77. Mikitoruz, thanks for creating Chlorurus strongylocephalus!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. Goblins77 (talk) 05:13, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please respond to concerns about link spamming[edit]

Hi Mikitoruz, you continue to add links to BEDO and ill-placed, sometimes superfluous images of fish articles. I and another editor have expressed concerns about this above. So far you haven't reacted to that in any way. Can I ask you once again to please at least get into some communications with us about this potential spamming problem? If you don't, I'll seek admin backup to make some headway. Elmidae (talk) 07:14, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

April 2015[edit]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. Fiddle Faddle 09:34, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • In addition to the reasons for concern about your editing that are mentioned above, I should also like to point out that this is the English language Wikipedia, and there is very little point in linking to pages on a site which is written in Thai, as very few readers of English Wikipedia understand Thai. In fact, such links are likely to do more harm than good, as readers may waste time following up the links, only to then discover that they are in a language they don't understand. It is scarcely ever appropriate to post external links to pages not written in English. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:03, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Since writing the above message, I have discovered that you created this account while an earlier account of yours was blocked, evidently as a way of evading the block. I see that you have had a large number of messages from other editors explaining to you what the problems with your editing are, but you have chosen to ignore them. I also see that you have stated that your intention is, in your own words, "to bring up publicity through wikipedia", confirming that the links you have posted are spam, for the purpose of attracting attention to your web site, not for the purpose of improving Wikipedia. For all those reasons, it is clear that your editing is not going to help the project, so you have been indefinitely blocked from editing. Please note that as long as the block is in place, you do not have permission to edit Wikipedia, and if you use another account to evade the block, all edits made with that account are likely to be reverted. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.
