Fails WP:NGEO - the cited reference doesn't even mention Coteau, rather that the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific line (Clear Lake – Watertown) was abandoned in 1953. As such the entire draft is original research.

The source you have provided for this place do not verify its existence. I have found verifiable evidence of a place called Clare Township, in Moody County, South Dakota. The place you've identified appears to be somewhat northeast of Brookings, whereas the Clare Township (which is recognized as a census-designated place) is southeast of Brookings, closer to Flandreau.
