Rail Infoboxes

Hello -- It's nice to see that someone else is interested in Pittsburgh area trolleys and interurbans, where Wikipedia coverage still seems a bit sparse. Just a reminder that there are several different rail infoboxes, depending on the gauge of the rails. For Pittsburgh, Harmony, Butler and New Castle Railway, I see that you used the standard gauge infobox. However, most (not all) of the Pennsylvania trolleys and interurbans used the 5 ft 2-1/2 inch gauge, sometimes referred to as "Pennsylvania Trolley Gauge." This was typically demanded by municipal governments when authorizing the laying of trolley/interurban track, to ensure that noisy steam locomotives could never operate on town streets.

There is a version of the rail infobox suitable for non-standard gauges (for example, see West Penn Railways), in which the user needs to insert the gauge. Canadian2006 (talk) 02:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

After losing my camera for over a month, I finally got it back the other day, and yesterday cycled around Pittsburgh taking pictures of NRHP sites, most of which don't have any articles. Do you create NRHP articles about places that you've never seen? Nyttend (talk) 22:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mvincec, You asked at my userpage if i would create NRHP tables for all the counties in Pennsylvania, noting i had table-ized Allegheny County. I notice User:dtbohrer (sp?) created some already, also, by the way. There is some skill/"expertise" involved in doing these right, although I do use a county-table-generator tool to do the heavy work upfront. Sure, I could plug away at PA now, and have just started with Adams County, within List of RHPs in PA. It will take some time though. Let me know which counties you'd like me to get to sooner rather than later.

Me, i create stub articles about lots of NRHPs, when i have a source to use, more often than when i have a pic to add. There are other wp:NRHPers who will only create an article if they have a pic ready to add. I have most recently finished "table-izing" the List of RHPs in NY. Two more pictures are now on Commons: the Lowrie House and the Butler County Courthouse. As for posting pictures: of the ten sites, four already have pictures, so I myself won't upload them. I didn't get too good of a shot of the Butler National Bank, while I think I'll post the bank-and-Lowrie-House-and-courthouse picture for the district, and you didn't get a picture for Elm Court. What about the other three: Roebling House, Passavant House, and armory? I'll not care if you post pictures for those three as well as for the bank; just getting to see all these sites, the two former churches (one of the pictures of the rural church is now at Forward Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania), and the lock structure (which is now approved for DYK) was quite good enough, regardless of whether I post any more pictures :-) Nyttend (talk) 04:59, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

NRHP sites

As you may remember, when you called on Monday, I was out looking for some old Indian mounds; you can see them in the Logan County section of National Register of Historic Places listings in Ohio under Dunns Pond Mound and Lake Ridge Island Mounds. The mounds on Lake Ridge Island were hard to find — the one I found was probably the smallest of the group — but Dunns Pond was easier, so getting a good site wasn't a problem. And I've been successful getting other sites, too; see File:Driveway view of The Fort.jpg and File:Martin Marmon House.jpg, both taken today. Nyttend (talk) 04:31, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Old Main and NRHP

What wording would you suggest: perhaps something that it is the core of a group of buildings eligible for listing as a historic district? Or do I misunderstand your point? The reason I wrote what I did is that the entry gives the date of construction as 1880, and while McCartney, Fern Cliffe, Memorial, Pearce, and McKee might be able to be contributing properties, I can't see the entire campus as being eligible, so I thought the safest statement was to say that Old Main was eligible. To get to the page that I was talking about last week at Homecoming, follow this procedure:

• Go to Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places
• Find the line beginning with "For Pennsylvania, the state office's ARCH system"
• Click either the "ARCH" link or the "CRGIS" link
• If you go to ARCH, click "Go directly to search" and enter the data; this will bring up all sites that fit. For example, selecting only the county line and putting in Beaver County will give you all twenty sites. From this page, you can access nomination forms, such as this for the library in Beaver Falls.
• If you go to CRGIS, click on the CRGIS logo at the bottom of the page, login as a guest, and enter data. You will get a map of the area that you pick, with points of interest (including tons of non-NRHP sites) shown as little triangles, squares, or other polygons; if you select an NRHP site, it will provide a link for the nomination form. Note that they're not always plotted exactly rightly; a building at 501 - 505 7th Avenue in Beaver Falls is shown northwest of the library, even though it's actually 8 blocks to the south. You'll need to download and install a program to view this map properly; I don't remember what it is, but when it prompts you to download and install, don't worry that it's malicious.

Baldinger's Market

Not sure what to do with this article. I happened across it and added a link to the official website, but while there I noticed that you lifted most of their "About" page for the article. I don't want to AfD it because I believe the article deserves to exist. Somehow, it's stood essentially like this for two and a half years now. I'm marking it with {{advert}} and hopefully that'll trigger a rewrite.

Greersburg Academy external link

We at WP:NRHP have identified several problems with nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com. Among them are the way it passes itself off — looking at it, you'd think that it was the official National Register website, rather than a private site; there's a tiny disclaimer at the bottom of the page, but the website's overall presentation of itself is rather disingenuous. As well, it contains many errors, because the people who set up the site didn't interpret the National Register database information properly. For an example of this, look at the Lawrence County page. Although we know that there are nine Lawrence County sites on the Register, if you believed nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com, you'd think that there were ten: it's not been updated to show the Scottish Rite Cathedral, but it shows two places, the Wilroy Furnace and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, that aren't on the Register. Winter Classic

The Winter Classic is not a tenant at any of those stadiums. I love the Pens, but because overzealous hockey fans have it wrong on other articles, it does not make it right for Heinz Field, whose accuracy I am primarily concerned with. The inclusion of the Winter Classic as a tenant in the Heinz Field article, or the addition of any other one time event like concerts or other special events, is incorrect. Actually, the WPIAL Championships is borderline for inclusion as a tenant, but at least that is annually reoccurring. See Template:Infobox stadium for a definition of the tenant field. It may be worth trying to get a new field inserted in that infobox for the listing of major special events like the Winter Classic, etc. CrazyPaco (talk) 02:45, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
