Information icon Hello, I'm Apparition11. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Laser engraving have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

That user name is already taken. You'll also need to discuss your edits that were inappropriate and what you will do differently going forward. only (talk) 03:15, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I will be more careful with links, I am not being compensated, I will make only helpful contributions

Decline reason:

Zero effort and uselessly vague appeal that addresses none of the above points and somehow has a new username that is just as bad as the original. If you continue to waste our time, your ability to edit this page will be withdrawn. MER-C 08:45, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I clearly am doing something wrong (not intentionally!). When I saw the original blocking note, I thought it was suggesting that there was something wrong with my name, so I attempted to change it. My username is TrophyCentral and it is the name of my company. I am not trying to promote my company, but this is a natural name for me to us as I own the company. I am happy to change the name if that's necessary, but I can't tell from these notes what I am supposed to do. I thought the content I provided was reasonable and was not self promoting. I would be grateful if someone could tell me what I am doing incorrectly and how to change it. Thank you.

Your username must indicate that a specific individual is exclusively operating this account. Your real name is not required. Please propose a new username, and also tell what topics you want to edit about. 331dot (talk) 15:05, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

331dot thank you! If this is approved, do I need to also change my login from TrophyCentral to NRTC? To answer your question: engraving, trophies, awards and related topics. Thank you again. As you can see, I am new to this!

Decline reason:

If "NR" is your personal initials, that would be okay as a username. However, since TrophyCentral is "your company" you are a paid editor and have a conflict of interest, so you won't be unblocked to edit about your company or its field. If there are topics completely unrelated to your conflict of interest that you want to edit about, please tell what those might be; if you are only here to edit about trophies and related topics, this is the end of the road for your Wikipedia career. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 17:13, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your clarification. Yes, my initials are NR. I am also interested commenting on higher ed and related topics. To be honest, I don't quite understand why experts in a subject aren't allowed to comment about their field of expertise (this seems counterintuitive), but if those are the rules, I will abide by them

Accept reason:

Username change has occurred; user agrees to stay away from areas in which they might have a conflict of interest. only (talk) 01:35, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:EXPERT for guidance for expert editors. If you after a time demonstrate a good edit history in areas unrelated to your COI, you may later be permitted to indirectly contribute information related to your COI. You'll still need to make the paid editing declaration. Someone else will review your request, and the exact criteria to be unblocked will be up to them. 331dot (talk) 20:03, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
