September 2023[edit]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to New York City Breakers. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, NYCBreakers. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 21:15, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A few things[edit]

While much of what you wrote is verifiable and supported by the current cited sources, your writing style is promotional (see WP:PEACOCK) and original research is not allowed here, meaning what you personally know or think and also not the place to right great wrongs. Your edit also removed most of the sources and added unreliable or poor sources. For example, Wikipedia is not a reliable source so should never be used (see WP:CIRC), YouTube is at best poor (see WP:RSPYT and WP:YouTube, copyright is a major concern) and not needed because most of the performances you were trying to use YouTube for are already sourced and Wikipedia is not a link farm. I urge you to take to the time to actually look at the sources currently cited as most are publicly accessible and keep in mind Wikipedia simply summarizes what reliable published sources have written. Everything must be supported by reliable sources such as print media (books published by reputable publishers, newspapers, etc.). I do agree the article needs improvement. It was not a great article from the start and over the years deteriorated by various COI editors with extremely poor writing skills (not a knock, we all have our different talents) and no sources to back up their claims which is more important than the writing as writing is fixable. I have recently spent significant time at least finding sources and doing some cleanup but have not yet tackled rewriting it and not sure I will, to be honest, because it seems to be waste of time because COI editors wipe it out with unsourced cruft. It's a damn shame because NYCB should at the very least be a decent article because they are historically significant. S0091 (talk) 18:12, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

September 2023[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Spicy (talk) 02:07, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikipedia Administrator,
I appreciate your attention to my request for unblocking my Wikipedia account. I would like to address the concerns and provide clarification regarding my previous contributions and my intentions moving forward.
First and foremost, I want to emphasize that I have not received any compensation for my contributions to the Wikipedia article. My primary motivation for editing the article was to ensure that accurate and factual information about the NYC Breakers was represented. The group holds significant cultural importance, and it is essential that its history is portrayed accurately.
I have taken note of Wikipedia's policy regarding the representation of groups or organizations and that my username and contributions may have inadvertently violated this policy. I sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding in this regard. I've applied for the username NYC Boy and awaiting a response.
Moving forward, I am committed to adhering to Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. I intend to contribute in a manner that upholds the highest standards of neutrality and factual accuracy. My focus will be on providing well-sourced and verifiable information about the NYC Breakers and their history, without using "promotional" language.
I also want to make it clear that I am the trademark and copyright owner of the NYC Breakers, the name and logo. My involvement with Wikipedia is motivated solely by the desire to ensure that the group's history is accurately represented. I am aware of the discrepancy in the group's history as it has been portrayed by the former manager, Mr. Michael Holman, who has taken ownership and responsibility for many of the great things accomplished by the group of teenagers. Michael Holman's account should be blocked for his continued inaccuracies of the NYC Breakers' history and violation of COI policy. He has been promoting himself through the NYC Breakers name since the 1980's and his constant editing of articles to suit his objectives has proven him well financially. With my reinstatement, it is my intention to maintain a commitment to the truth and accuracy in all contributions, ensuring that the NYC Breakers' legacy is restored and history depicted faithfully.
Once again, I appreciate your consideration of my unblock request, and I look forward to contributing constructively and in full compliance with Wikipedia's policies.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
NYCBreakers NYCBreakers (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am requesting to change my old user name as it violates Wikipedia user name policy such as being promotional and was a representation of an organization NYCBreakers (talk) 02:02, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

That would be fine as a new username, but I'm concerned that you seem to be carrying an off-wiki dispute about the history of your organization to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not interested in what you or anyone in your organization says is its history; Wikipedia articles summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic. See WP:TRUTH. Please tell how you will edit consistent with the conflict of interest policy. If you work for the band, you are a paid editor, you do not need to be specifically paid to make edits(otherwise every paid editor would deny being specifically paid to make edits). I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
