Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Referencing

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for the work you're doing on referencing the article Lasantha Wickrematunge. But please note that putting "catid=13&artid=27722" into all the new references breaks them. Have a look at the references section, which is full of errors again, because that fragment keeps getting added to the new references. I'm happy to fix the broken references added so far, if you like. Storchy (talk) 15:58, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, that would be really great if you can fix them NalinWijer (talk) 16:34, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed those references, but you keep adding new references with "catid=13&artid=27722".
Please don't keep putting that into new references. Storchy (talk) 18:09, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You might find Help:Referencing for beginners with citation templates useful. Storchy (talk) 18:18, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your references are an unreadable mess. Please stop trying to format references yourself, because you're creating a lot of work for other editors to clean up. Just put the reference link between two tags, like this:
<ref>http://www.example.com</ref>
Other editors can then format the bare references for you. Thank you. Storchy (talk) 04:03, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I won’t add them again. Would you mind fixing the broken links? NalinWijer (talk) 04:26, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but this is the last time I will clean up your mess. Storchy (talk) 04:34, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Gotabaya_Rajapaksa into Lasantha Wickrematunge. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 19:42, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Your edits to Lasantha Wickrematunge and Assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge have been removed in whole or in part, as it appears you added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. — Diannaa (talk) 04:00, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge, without citing a reliable source. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lasantha Wickrematunge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page FT. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Control copyright icon Hello NalinWijer! Your additions to Assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Storchy (talk) 09:35, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NalinWijer, you've copied text into the Lasantha Wickrematunge and Assassination of Lasantha Wickrematunge articles from newspapers again, and I must ask you once again to please stop. You've referenced the added text with the article you copied the text from, but that doesn't matter. By law, Wikipedia cannot have copyrighted content in its articles. You must write your edits in your own words. Thank you. Storchy (talk) 09:54, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Everything I used was edited into my own words. It took over an hour for me to research the story and collect all the information and change the Language into my own words. I only used quotes that were published that were useful information to the story. NalinWijer (talk) 10:42, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The content you added was copied from another website, and thus was a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Please don't add copyright material to Wikipedia. — Diannaa (talk) 12:29, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked as a sockpuppet

[edit]
Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for abusing multiple accounts as a sockpuppet of User:Romesh67 per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Romesh67. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
