[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Anabbarros.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 01:14, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice Request

[edit]

Hello Neoarchon! I was wondering if I could ask you about systems engineering. I'm in my second last year in secondary school and I'm certain that I'll have a science/engineering/maths oriented career but I'm not sure about the specifics. Could you tell me a bit about systems engineering? If it's an interdisciplinary field, what engineering would come in handy? Could you do a primary degree in physics and maths and do a relevant engineering postgrad degree? If you could tell me a bit about it I'd be very grateful. Thank you very much. --Onias 20:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see. So I should get a broad education in computing? That sounds good. I could get a joint-honours degree in Maths and Computer Science or Maths and Electronic Engineering. Thanks for your help. --Onias 22:22, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Question

[edit]

Non free images are allowed in encyclopediac articles if they are necessary/extremely relevant to illustrate the article in question. (For example, a movie poster or a company logo.) However, non-free images are not allowed in non-encyclopediac areas of Wikipedia such as portals and userpages (and by extension, userboxes) because that violates copyright laws. For example, in the Portal:Sony PlayStation Selected biography section, if I want to put Sony Computer Entertainment in there, I can't use the logo pic that is in the article on SCEI. I hope that answers your question. If you want to read the official policy on non-free images, see here. (I will warn you, it's pretty heavy reading.) I'm sorry I can't explain it better because I'm still kind of new and I'm not 100% sure of the reasoning behind the policy. If you still don't understand it, I would recommend asking at the Help Desk. I can almost guarentee you you will get an answer there. Thingg 15:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Xbox Live userbox

[edit]

I like your PSN userbox. hopefully you're not too much of a PlayStation diehard and might consider creating a nice one for Xbox Live users? the user who created the present Xbox Live userbox hasn't been around since October. here's the message I left him with my ideas -

>Any possibility of jazzing up this userbox? perhaps with a picture? LIVE in orange would be nice, see Xbox Live for the image. it would also be cool if you automagically linked to http://live.xbox.com/member/XXX where XXX is the gamertag inputted. and made the color for the link white to match the rest of the text. Thanks in advance! xenocidic (talk) 21:07, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Gabriella Fox

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Gabriella Fox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Jagun (talk) 23:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Jabil.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jabil.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 22:11, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
