The "LGBTQ Equality" article is great! I think although it can be a touchy subject, it seems to remain very objective, which is a good call given the guidelines of wiki. Good job!! Mdonal12 (talk) 00:52, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notes[edit]

Hi! I was wondering which article the draft will be going into, as this will have a definite impact on my notes.

The pages you have listed are all pretty general, so something to take into consideration is that the general pages should have a global focus and your draft focuses specifically on the United States. Also, keep in mind that specific topics of LGBT equality and marriage have their own articles, so the main articles should only cover this topic very briefly and link to the topic and/or country specific articles. For rights and equality in general, there's LGBT rights by country or territory and LGBT rights in the United States and for marriage there's Same-sex marriage and Same-sex marriage in the United States.

The draft also needs sourcing, as the draft currently doesn't have any - this is vital to any contributions that are added. I would absolutely recommend that you look for academic sourcing for this, as anything LGBT related tends to be a hot button, controversial topic and academic and scholarly sources tend to be the ones that are of the highest quality, whereas many website sources or popular press articles can sometimes be less so.

I also want to caution you on tone. At points your writing becomes very passionate and while I definitely agree with your viewpoint, the writing needs to be as neutral as possible. Avoid scare quotes, as this can sometimes cause something to come across as leaning to one direction over another.

I don't want this to discourage you - I definitely want to encourage you to edit in this topic area since it's so vitally important, but definitely be careful with it. I hope that this helps! Definitely contact me with any questions or concerns you may have! --Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:00, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

Hi! This week the assignment is to start moving your work live. I'm not really sure where your sandbox material is meant to go, since you have so many articles assigned to yourself in the same topic area. Some things I do want to note:

  • The contribution is written a little bit from a point of passion/emotion. I whole heartedly agree with the sentiments, but the content needs to be written in a neutral tone.
  • The section is unsourced, so the section needs independent, reliable sources to back up the claims.
  • Keep in mind that the average article should have a global perspective. This specific section examines LGBT equality in the USA, so it would need more of a global perspective. There is an article on LGBT in the United States, so that would be the best place - however they do already have a section on equality and rights at LGBT rights. My recommendation here is to fix/expand the section on LGBT interest groups, as it's unsourced and may need to be updated. Maybe a little history on LGBT interest groups in the United States?

You may also want to look at improving a section in the article on Media portrayal of LGBT people, specifically the section on marketing to the LGBT community since it's so small. Here are some sources that I found in your library website that could be useful to this end: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], (this one details LGBT marketing in India. You could also, of course, use any of the sourcing and content in the existing article on LGBT marketing to build up this section - just keep in mind that the main focus should be on how LGBT people are portrayed. The article on Pinkwashing (LGBT) could also be useful to this end.

Let me know if any of this is helpful to you! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:20, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi - I took a look at the sourcing and it looks like the sourcing is empty - I believe that the sources are meant to correlate with those at the end, however what you need to do is place these citations in-line by following the directions here. Now as far as putting the content in your sandbox goes, it's not the same as publishing it live in an article. However since the section still needs work, that's not a bad thing. Also, which article is the content supposed to go into? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:33, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Struggle to Reach LGBTQ Equality[edit]

Hey, I'm a new page patroller and I reviewed the article you started, The Struggle to Reach LGBTQ Equality. It seemed that the article was essentially a shorter version of the article that I redirected to, LGBT social movements. • Hi Nia! I think that the best option here would be to look and see what you can use to help expand the main article. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 14:42, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
