How to delete my user account?[edit]

Hi Nihiltres. I want to delete my user account. How to delete my user account? Sonic99 03:21, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

It's impossible to completely delete your account, but you can have all pages associated with you deleted (your user and user talk pages.) If you replace your talk page with {{db-userreq|rationale=I would like my right to vanish, please - Sonic99}} , say, someone will delete your talk page, and you needn't edit further. Does that help? Nihiltres(t.l) 03:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC) (cross-posted)
If I type that in my talk page, will all my edits and discussions be deleted from Wikipedia? Sonic99 01:36, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
No, that is not possible. You can't have your edits deleted, but your user discussion page (all of User talk:Sonic99) can be deleted using that method. Once both of those are deleted, it is unlikely that anyone will find your edits unless they are specifically searching for them. Nihiltres(t.l) 01:44, 25 July 2007 (UTC) (cross-posted)

Deletion of Digital Hoard[edit]

What is the reason for speedy deletion ? This page is about a product like other existing pages on Wikipedia (examples include Delicious Library and Bookpedia among others). What is so different about this page ? Or is it that I did not do proper editing ? This message appeared after I tried to add this to a catagory. Maybe Wikipedia adds things to catagories by iteslf. Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

I would appreciate it if you told us what the reson was before deleting the complete article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitch99 (talkcontribs) 17:50, July 25, 2007 (UTC)

The article was first tagged for deletion by Realkyhick, who noted that the article didn't seem to live up to the notability guideline for companies or their products, meaning that the page then qualified for speedy deletion under criterion A7 (Notability not asserted). After some of your subsequent edits removed the tag (something which the creator of an article shouldn't generally do, by the way, though we don't hold that against you), Finngall re-added the tag. Going through entries at Category:Candidates for speedy deletion, I found the article and judged it to be instead at the time more eligible for speedy deletion under criterion G11 (Blatant advertising), because of the promotional language it contained. You listed "Digital Hoard's compelling features", for example, described how to use the program, and linked multiple times to its official site - a style which makes the article read like an advertisement. Advertisements are not allowed on Wikipedia, so I deleted it at that time. The questions and answers at Wikipedia:Business' FAQ might be enlightening, particularly the note about similar products or companies, even if your product is free. I hope that this explanation satisfies your desire to know why your article was deleted. Nihiltres(t.l) 18:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC) (cross-posted)

The links were not in the "compeling features section" but in the external Links section where links were placed to the website. Again how is this different from any of the other articles (see above) I mentioned. You got to have a transparent policy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mitch99 (talkcontribs) 18:39, July 25, 2007

I didn't say that there were links in the "compelling features" section. I said that the phrase "compelling features" sounded promotional, and meant that your linking not only to the official site but to a download page seemed promotional. It is different from the other articles in that the other articles have established the notability of their subjects: Delicious Library is the recipient of multiple Apple Design Awards, and as for Bookpedia, I tagged it with {{prod-nn}}, because although the article has lasted for as long as it has so far, it doesn't explicitly mention the notability of its subject. I hope that that addresses your concerns. By the way, please sign your posts using four tildes (~~~~). Nihiltres(t.l) 18:53, 25 July 2007 (UTC) (cross-posted)

Deleted Brewing Time for Tea[edit]

Hello. You deleted my article Brewing Time for Tea because of copyright problems. I am the author and owner of the copyright of the article posted on EnglishTeaStore.com. I state this in my discussion, and have added a free copyright tag to the original article on EnglishTeaStore.com.

Mandy Barberio, 7-26-2007

Thank you for relicensing your content! If you use the content further (which you most certainly may), it will not be a copyright violation, because of the explicit GFDL license you applied to it. You may regardless want to merely merge content into related articles on Wikipedia instead of recreating the article - the coverage of your piece seems somewhat broad for an individual article. Some articles whose topics you mention include Tea, Flavonoid, and Theanine - all places where your content might be well used. Nihiltres(t.l) 17:08, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Unusual Adoption Request[edit]

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

It sounds like an interesting project. I'll add my name to your list. Nihiltres(t.l) 21:24, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Script, Kiddies[edit]

Thanks for the script. I've installed it, and will put it to good use. It looks like it will be a good help and a time saver! Where do you get such wonderful toys? the_undertow talk 01:41, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes, these edit summaries please me. Thanks again. the_undertow talk 00:52, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Deleted Content[edit]

I posted content on a new process that enhances Six Sigma, expressed the facts around it including identifying myself as the creator of it. This is all true, however you deleted it as "blatant advertising"? this was certainly not my intent. I will again post Measured Action and ask that you kindly do not delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmoitzh (talkcontribs) 02:08, July 28, 2007 (UTC)

The language used before certainly seemed promotional, and another editor tagged it as such before I deleted it. If you post it again, please revise the text so that it doesn't seem to be promoting the process, that may make things easier for you if you don't mean it to be an advertisement. Nihiltres(t.l) 02:13, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Eaten Up Inside[edit]

Should Eaten Up Inside be deleted? Aside from the fact that it has copyright lyrics, the song itself isn't even a single. -WarthogDemon 05:59, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I removed the copyvio immediately (anyone can and should remove copyvio on sight, either by blanking or {{db-g12}}), which leaves the article pretty bare. I'm pretty sure that it's an uncontroversial deletion candidate, but I don't think it's a speedy deletion candidate. Prod or AfD would both work; I personally recommend {{prod}}. Clockwork attack[edit]

Hey Nihiltres, can you take another look at that article again? Sorry I didn't mention it the first time, but the creator of the article (CjPuffin) has requested on the talk page that the article be deleted. youngvalter 20:44, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Aha. I thought that the fact that the G7 looked invalid was slightly wierd, thanks for correcting my oversight. I've deleted it. Nihiltres(t.l) 20:47, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Cheers, youngvalter 20:53, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

A7 tagging[edit]

I must be going nuts. I mistakenly thought it was an article. When I RC patrol, I'm basically on autopilot, so when I saw that new page being created, I thought it was a non-notable article. Wow this is embarrassing, it'll never happen again! Spellcast 01:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

OK, just try to watch for namespace next time. :) Nihiltres(t.l) 01:26, 29 July 2007 (UTC) (cross-posted)

Ardecore[edit]

Hi, why you did delete my Ardecore's page. I think this group has a great relevance, because it is doing an important cultural work, discovering again the folk tradition from Rome. The reinvented itwith important Italian and American artists who compare on Wikipedia, as Zu and Geoff Farina (Karate). I hope you will agree and that my page will compare again on Wikipedia and that tou will help me to improvethe page. Bye bye Locaracle 08:43, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

I deleted it because it did not explain how the group is important. We have a notability guideline, including a specialized one for music-related entries, and insufficient information was present to verify that your band has great relevance, regardless of the advances in culture which it may be making. If you wish to repost the article with verifiable information from third parties, it then might have a chance of survival. (By the way, there's nothing to suggest this, but if you're part of the group, you need to be aware of the conflict of interest guideline.) Good luck, Nihiltres(t.l) 13:42, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I read the criteria and I think Ardecore has at least 3 points. They played in a national tour in 2006. They are published by an italian historic label Il Manifesto. They played with someone who is on Wikipedia: Zu and Geoff Farina, who played with Karate. I'm not one of th members. I'm only a Wikipedian. I hope it's enough. Bye Bye Locaracle 09:27, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Article Deletion: KeY[edit]

You deleted the article on the KeY software verification system because of allegedly "blatant advertising". Due to the following reasons we disagree:

  • KeY is a non-commercial academic research project.
  • Comparable systems like ESC/Java2 and Spec# have Wikipedia entries as well.
  • The statements about KeY made in the article are objective and verifiable by various academic publications one of which was even mentioned in the article.

We are however aware that our article had its deficiencies and was still in a rudimentary and early stage (that's why we actually marked it as a stub). But we don't see how the article could improve if it is immediately deleted before anyone gets the opportunity to edit it.

We therefore kindly ask you to undelete the article and welcome any suggestions how to improve it to make it compliant with the Wikipedia rules. KeYIT 09:19, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hmm. In this case, I believe that I made an honest mistake - there's some wording in the article that looks promotional, and I had been working at Category:Spam pages for speedy deletion for slightly too long - the article isn't blatantly advertising the project. I recommend you reword phrases like "aims to [...] as seamlessly as possible", phrases like those are abundant in spam, and that was the primary confirmation for me while evaluating the page for spam. I'll undelete the page, but must remind you, given your username, of the conflict of interest guideline, since you appear to be involved with the project. Nihiltres(t.l) 14:10, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. KeYIT 15:16, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
