Hi Iridescent, I understand you are doing your job and trying to keep Wikipedia a safe and sensible place; I absolutely respect that. I do want to say I am closely affiliated to Old Crypto Mage, and our purpose for Wikipedia posting is creating light in the dark, mostly unheard of underworld that is defi (decentralized finance) space and smartchain cryptocurrency. Most of this information is not even Google-able in the slightest. We wanted to edit the Old Crypto Mage page to eventually shed light on this underworld and bring justice to the sheer amount of scammers, preying on the naive and vulnerable, who thrive in this space. Old Crypto Mage is one of the very few, legitimate developers and influencers in the cryptocurrency space--the "wild west" part of it which is very difficult to research. I hope this message offers solace and you might be able to reconsider your deletion! I completely understand how you interpreted it the way you did, though. Just please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Richard OldCryptoMage (talk) 04:45, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will try to resubmit it without it coming off as any sort of advertisement, thanks. OldCryptoMage (talk) 04:49, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Before you go any further, read Wikipedia:Notability. Wikipedia is a tertiary source, not a general directory—our role is to summarize information that has been published in independent reliable sources, and consequently if a subject hasn't been the topic of significant coverage in reliable sources independent of the subject, we don't cover it here. I'd also strongly recommend reading Wikipedia:Conflict of interest; you've declared your relationship with the subject (which is good), but there are a lot of additional safeguards that come into play when someone is writing about a topic to which they're connected, as it's virtually impossible to write neutrally about any topic with which one has a strong connection (positive or negative). ‑ Iridescent 04:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I did repost before I saw this (after editing), but I understand. I suppose that is the purpose. Independent reliable sources do not cover the underworld I am talking about--the one which is highly secretive and underground, which is why I'm attempting to bring these sources to light. It has taken years of research and dedication in this underworld to grasp it, and I want to share this with the public. Roughly 1% of the Cryptocurrency investment community even knows about the defi space, the "wild west" as many call it. I want to share that here, as it's available no-where else. Regardless, I respect your decision. Thanks. OldCryptoMage (talk) 04:58, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do ask, if at all in your power, to kindly reconsider or try and make some form of exception; my goal is to cover this sort of information and bring to light what needs to be brought to light, unbiasedly. There is a whole underworld which no amount of Googling can can shed any information on; it's quite fascinating actually. I've tried to offer only facts in the revision, and nothing else. Anyways, thank you for your time! OldCryptoMage (talk) 05:03, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is a whole underworld which no amount of Googling can can shed any information on. Wikipedia isn't a source in itself, it's an aggregation service; that is, we don't engage in any original research ourselves, we only repeat what sources say about any given topic. Thus, there are large swathes of topics on which we have very little or minimal coverage because the sources exist; likewise, there are a number of Wikipedia articles which we know are inaccurate or out-of-date, but we don't correct them until sources have been published with the new information. It's confusing—people tend to assume Wikipedia is an information resource in its own right, not an aggregator for other resources—but it's an absolute core part of Wikipedia's identity that any fact stated in a Wikipedia article will be followed by a reference (they look like [1]) which tells readers where the information in question came from so they can verify it for themselves. ‑ Iridescent 14:06, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
