Just a Question

Just a question...where did you find my userpage? That's the only way to get to that joke page, I think....–Sidious1701(talkemailtodo) 15:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I think it was through the new userboxes page. Oren neu dag 17:04, 8 August 2007 (UTC).

African American Flag

I'm pretty sure that the flag that you uploaded and was linked into the Pan-African flag was designed originally by American artist David Hammons. You may want to note that. --Knulclunk 03:04, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

I mentioned it in the image's page. Oren neu dag 16:16, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Bulgarian flag

This flag that you submit is a WAR flag not a National flag. The bulgarian NATIONAL flag from 1878 to 1946 and from 1990 is identical. Please do not take back war flag --Scroch 10:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Request

Hello, Oren. May I ask that you remove the comment saying that anti- and post- Zionists are fascists in your opinion? To me, including that statement doesn't seem like it can be useful for the project, and the natural consequence of including it is that certain people will be offended. It just adds friction without much benefit. See also Wikipedia:User page#What may I not have on my user page?. Kol tuv, nadav (talk) 02:20, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Ahalan Nadav! concerning your request i have a small matter to adress. it was my understanding that whatever is written in the user page is the reflection of the user's worldview and that as such it doesn't contradict Wikipedia's rule that all things written in the article zone must be NPOV, and that other things written outside the article area can contain personal POV. if i'm wrong here please correct me and i'll remove immediatley all things concerning my worldview from my user page.

Oren neu dag 02:36, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

You understood correctly. Separately from that though, there is also a guideline for userpage content (WP:USER). It says that certain POV statements (what it calls "polemical statements") should be avoided on user pages. The reasoning for this is that user pages are there to make it easier to work with other editors in building the encyclopedia. nadav (talk) 03:08, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
To make my userpage less "polemic" I'll change it to a more subtle and indicative instead of the forward way it was 'till now. Oren neu dag 03:16, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for reducing the "polemicity" :) Best, nadav (talk) 03:42, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

re IAF SVG

No prob for the SVG. I'm just learning how to use inksvape (an SVG editing program), and the lion in Image:Lionflag.PNG looks pretty difficult, so for now, I'll have to hold off. But maybe soon with some more experience I'll give it a try. מועדים לשמחה! -ReuvenkT C 07:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Lion Flag

Delete the layer which contains the reference raster image (lionflag.PNG) and try uploading. Wikimedia does not allow embedded raster graphics. Your problem should be solved then. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 12:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

HERE is some HELP

to explain you where the problem with your file is i need to explain you first the diference between a bitmap image( jpg, tiff, png, bit) and a vector graphic (ai, svg, crl) Bitmap graphics are formed by a serie of color swuares called pixels, this squares change in size and consentration acording to the resolution of the image but they are always a defined number of squares. Vector graphics on the other hand are constructed images formed with points , the lines conecting them and the areas they form. in resume a vector graphoc file is nothing more that a group of coordinates and matematical relationships between points. The main advantage of vector grpahics is that each time the image is shown, the computer literally constructs the image new, and can do so in every size desired. while a bitmap has a limit of size.

now it is posible to have one kind of file inside another one, this is called embedded files. still a bitmap remais being so even if inside an svg, and therefor is not as usefullas a pure svg.

to really convert a file into a svg one should rebuild the whole image. piece by piece. i will show you with your flag what i mean:

1.- you open the flag.png with the vector program , i use adobe ilustrator: image 2.- once your base image is ther you start building up. in this case you make rectangles as big as the flag colors:image 3.- you will end with 3 squares (with black borders in the image) one white as big as the flag, and 2 smaller, one red and one green. remember in vector graphics objects ( points lines, areas) are one above the other, so that if in the same place some would cover the ones below them. in this case both colors are above the white so that at the end the only visible white will be in the midle.image 4.- we come to the lion, there are 2 methods to do this figures, one of the is from the inside out, that is to understand the yellow as area and the black as line. still vector graphic lines have always the same width along the line and are not really realisic in this kind of image. the second method outside in, understands the yellow as areas above a black area and is more precise. first you must retrace the outline of the lion image to create a single black figure:image then you must do the same with every yellow area of the lion, first an outline image that you transform in area. becouse the yellow areas are above the black siluete they cover the right aread forming the lion body:image 5.- the eyes and mouth as well of the few spot on the body are black areas on top of the yellow areas. so that at the end it would look like this:image 6.- now that you have all parts, you DELETE the reference picture so that there are no bitmaps inside the mage and save the file as svg. the file should this way contain only what you draw, that is only vectors. after uplaoding it, it looks like thi:

MPD

Hi, Oren neu tag. Your userboxes suggest you are a monarchist but also a social democrat, a zionist but also a citizen of the world, a committed advocate of democracy but also a supporter of the Pahlavi dynasty -- how many persons are you?... Shalom. -The Gnome (talk) 22:10, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, why does it have to be contradicting?
  • i'm a monarchist cause i know that this will unify my people, and i'm a social-democrat cause i believe in the State's responsibility to assist the poor and the weak in the society (Scandinavia is a good example of monarchy with social democrat reality).
  • I'm a zionist cause i care for my people and i wish i could help it, but if at the same time i can both care for my people and care for the world (i.e. by inventing invention that will help to protect my ppl and at the same time the world) - what's wrong with that?
  • I'm a committed advocate of democracy and i'm also a supporter of the Pahlavi dynasty cause the ayatullah's regime in iran is anything but a democratic one, and the rule of a future pahlavi shah can be and will be a democratic one.
so to sum it all up: i'm not a contradictory man at all. Oren neu dag (talk) 12:00, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. So -
  • You're actually a supporter of decorative monarchy, of a monarchy that's there for ceremonial and symbolic purposes, and to attract tourists. This is quite compatible with democracy actually. I would guess that you're not a supporter of the other kind of monarchy. (Modern Scandinavian monarchy is vastly different from Saudi monarchy.)
  • I was under the impression that Zionism was another nationalism. And nationalism stands in opposition to universal principles like the ones you listed. But if Zionism is not nationalism (if, for example, a Zionist can support the rights of an Arab equally forcibly as the rights of a Jew), then my understanding is wrong.
  • I take it that the mullahs' regime in Iran and the regal regime of the Pahlevis are not the only options for Iranian governance. Unless I'm mistaken there is this thing called democracy. (Where would social democrats be without the democrat part?) So, preferring the Shah over the Ayatollah is one thing; preferring the Pahlevi dynasty over all the other alternatives is quite another. I don't recall the Shah's reign being a benign one, like it is in Scandinavia. Shalom. -The Gnome (talk) 21:42, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Coat of Arms

Hi. Do you have a link to this symbol of the WHINSEC? I cannot find it on the webpage of the institute.Ultramarine (talk) 06:40, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

yes, WHISC. Oren neu dag (talk) 06:44, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
There is no link there. Exactly what webpage adress did you get the symbol from? Ultramarine (talk) 06:46, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
i was just surfing in wikicommons and i found it. Oren neu dag (talk) 06:48, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
On the Institute's webpage there is another symbol used and not this one. If not a WP:RS is given for that this symbol is real, then it should be removed.Ultramarine (talk) 06:50, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I unintentionally found it on wikicommons, and if u want to know more about the reliability of its sources than u should ask the the guy that uploaded it to wikicommons. if it needs to be deleted it's fine by me - i was just trying to be useful. Oren neu dag (talk) 06:54, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I thought that you had uploaded it. My mistake.Ultramarine (talk) 06:55, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Sharing

Hi Oren neu dag! Thanks for sharing your poem. I understand how painful a history (and present) of dispossession, oppression and insecurity can be. I hope you can too. What I mean by that is that the waking nightmare endured by Jews ended over 60 years ago. Our nightmare (as Palestinians) has been ongoing for 60 years now. Nevertheless, when the prison walls come down, I'd be happy to dance with you under the olive tree. Tiamut 10:58, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Responding to something you left on my talk page

I am not Palestinian nor am I Jewish, nor am I anti-semitic. On my wiki page it states I support the liberation of Palestine --- how does that make me Palestinian? Why are you surprised that I have "Jews" (many of the "Jews" on my page are actually Atheists) on page? Can people who support the liberation of Palestine ultimately be anti-Semitic? You make no sense. --W123 (talk) 22:04, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

i thought that u're a palestinian only cause most ppl that do put this userbox in their userpage are mostly arabs, and i do find anti-semitic to want (and correct me if i'm wrong) the liberation of palestine on the expense of the state of israel (i.e. the obliteration of israel) so that's why i made fun of you (which i'm sorry for it now). Oren neu dag (talk) 05:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Assalamu-aleikum wa-rehmetullahi wa-barakatoh

This is such an amazing coincidence! To be honest, I have never seen yours at all. I did not know about it till now, but there are certainly many parallels. Mine was originally going to be a shah-supporting one, but I don't really support the shah, lol. I promise you I was not inspired by yours, but that this is a very intriguing coincidence. --Enzuru 03:50, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Why thank you!

Thanks so much for my new flag. It's very useful for keeping track of my comments on a page, and now it looks much slicker. :) Cheers! --Yossarian Flag of Soviet Canuckistan.svg 09:22, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Unrequited Advice

Just a word: if you intend editing in difficult areas of the encyclopaedia, it is best to make no assumptions about someone's background, and how that might or might not factor into what they know and how they edit. I know that your enquiries are innocent, but in controversial areas asking about that sort of thing leads to viewing the other person's edits through a particular lens, and is quite unhelpful eventually. That being said, I believe I can answer a recent question you asked someone: this article is relevant. Relata refero (talk) 14:13, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I have pasted the userbox on my userpage, as well as the flag image. American Imperialist (talk) 12:55, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

The image is very interesting. What made you come up with this anyway? I'm asking since I notice it is a fair-use image. American Imperialist (talk) 15:08, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Sounds like quite a project. For the sake of curiosity, do you plan to place the image on an article related to the topic, or is it just meant for the userbox template? American Imperialist (talk) 17:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, thats a stupid question. You previously said that it was fictional. Regard me as image-retarted on wikipedia. American Imperialist (talk) 17:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

coat of arms on Crown of Aragon

I see that on Crown of Aragon you were placing a different coat of arms, but that coat is probably more for the Catholic Kings than for the Crown itself --Enric Naval (talk) 06:08, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Cuba

You: "in your template you state that the user that uses it is "Pro Cuba" and i wanted to know what you mean:"

None of the three options you gave me describe my position. But I'm sure you've already guessed mine from my profile. Why don't you get to your point? :-P --MQDuck 00:49, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

You: "Actually i'm asking cause i honestly have no idea what mean by "Pro Cuba". The three point i've written above are all presumtions, not rulings. so if u can just tell me what stands behing this template i'll be very happy with whatever your answer may be. --Oren neu dag (talk) 01:19, 23 April 2008 (UTC)"
I'm pro-communist, pro-freedom and anti-capitalist. If you're looking for ideological arguments, I can certainly send you some links. But I didn't make the template, so I can't tell you what it's "supposed" to mean. --MQDuck 05:04, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I have a question for you. I wasn't aware it was possible to be a "committed advocate of democracy" who "identifies as a Monarchist", let alone a pro-Pahlavi leftist. --MQDuck 05:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

it's very clear - In Scandinavia they are all monarchies, yet have the best (in my opinion) laws of social democratic nature.
and as for the pahlavi - while the last shah was un-democratic, this doesn't say that the next one will be just like the old one, and if this doesn't make thing clear for you let me to summarize my belief in short: i believe that every nation on earth should be in the form of the scandinavian countries. --Oren neu dag (talk) 13:54, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I understand the appeal of strongly a social-democratic system, and it's probably true that it's about the best capitalism has ever offered people.
But there's something I don't get. Maybe it's just because I'm an American, but I can't wrap my head around the idea that a person can call themselves both a monarchist and a democrat. By any meaningful definition, they're opposites and are only compatible to the degree that the monarchy (or democracy) is symbolic and therefore meaningless. It's like saying you oppose fascism while putting on an SS uniform. --MQDuck 02:03, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
My only reply is look at Norway or Denmark and u'll see why the two are not opposites. --Oren neu dag (talk) 12:57, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Userpage

Ha ha, well I said "its naive, but people could dream". You're not correct about the impossibility of Greater Syrians living together in peace. These past 80 years have just been an ugly phase for Arabs (losses to Israel, loss of the Soviet ally, civil wars everywhere [Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, even Palestine], corrupt and weak-hearted leaders who rule with an iron fist and with America's blessing, destruction of land at the hands of foreign armies and of course the rise of Islamist extremism). But look at America, 30 years ago, hell even 10 years ago you couldn't imagine a black man becoming the country's president. Now look. The people of Syria are almost exactly the same in dialect, foods, general culture, even color and facial features and they've lived together for centuries. It's just proxy wars and selfishness on the part of the leadership that keeps us divided. The new generations are different, I assure you. You may think of Israel as your country which could never be defeated and will always remain, but most Muslims see it as a Crusader-like state that will eventually be liberated. Just like during the Crusades, the Franks thrived when the Arabs and Muslims were divided, but when they were united under one leadership and had one large, well-trained and well-disciplined army they were defeated. The Outremer lasted for almost a century, before Saladin and the Arabs defeated them. Anyway, things are much different now. As long as America is the only superpower on the block and it continues its unwavering support for Israel and continues its military and political influence in the Arab world, the Arab situation will remain at the status quo or will get even worse. I really worry about the fate of Palestine, Jerusalem, Gaza and the 5 million refugees if things stay the way they are now.

We really shouldn't discuss our views on wikipedia (I hope I don't get in trouble for doing so now). And btw, to be honest, as of right now I'd rather be an Arab citizen of Israel than a citizen of any Arab country. It's a pretty good life actually. If my views truly offend you as an Israeli, I'll remove them from the user page so as not to offend anyone else. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

First off, I'm glad you're not offended ;-) Second, you are right about the Crusaders, they just wanted the Holy Land in their domain, they really didn't settle down. Israel might stay here, but I don't think it will ever be in peace. After all it's an island in an Arab sea that hates its guts. Maybe some governments recognize and accept Israel (and we don't how long that will last), but the general populace of those countries (not to mention Egypt) have a great resentment of Israel. And to be honest its not about us "hating the Jews" (after all Arabs and Jews had an extremely prosperous relationship for centuries and suffered together during the Crusades and the Inquisition) it's about any foreign people occupying their homeland. It could have been Indians, Chinese, Italians or Africans, but our hate towards that foreign state would be the same. Also, I understand the Jewish people have ancient ties to the land and I stress out the word ancient, but those millions of refugees had even closer ties to it. They and their ancestors had lived there for centuries if not millenia and they established cities and towns throughout the land. Plus most of the new Jewish towns were built atop the destroyed or depopulated Arab towns if not adjacent to them. I don't know what will happen in the future, will Israel be eliminated, will the Arabs finally be silenced and surrender or will both share the land as a single state. And God-willing Jerusalem and Damascus will be in the same state. --Al Ameer son (talk) 16:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Kingdom of Kongo Flag

Hi, Oren. I'm writing u in regards to the Kingdom of Kongo flag. I undid your edit and put the original one (that I put up) back. I did this as no disrespect to you, and please do not take it as such. The last thing I want to do is offend someone who took time out of their schedule to help on an article I care about it. The reason I changed the flag, is because a comparison between yours (which has straight ends) and the model I've seen in the links below is so different. I believe the rounded edges of the red cross are significant and not just the result of pixelization. Check out the links below to see what I'm talking about.
