Please read the ASI report from 1925---it is on the web. Banerji categorically mentions "Ahom builders", so your interpretation of "domination of the Ahoms" is not needed. The link to the report is in the article itself. Make sure you read the PDF version, because the text version has formatting issues and is unclear.
