Welcome

[edit]

Welcome to wikipedia. I have noticed that you have created new pages related to Evolutionary biology. There is an extensive collection of articles about this subject see Category:Evolutionary biology and Category:Evolution. There is a good chance that the subject matter that you are writting about can already be dealt with in an exsisting article. I have brought this to the attension of WikiProject Evolutionary biology you are welcome to comment there. Again welcome. Jon513 21:14, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. What are the criteria for deciding when a page should stand on its own and when it should be merged with existing pages? --Pdturney 23:21, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Only when a page becomes to large does it makes sence to have a separte page. When that is done there is generally a small section on the main article with the words ::
Main article: other article

Evolutionary progress

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Evolutionary progress, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a direct copy from http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0505.html?m%3D1, and therefore a copyright violation. Evolutionary progress has been nominated for deletion.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GFDL, you can comment to that effect on Talk:Evolutionary progress. Then you should do one of the following:

  • Make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication.
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation.

If the article has already been deleted, but you have a proper release, you can reenter the content at Evolutionary progress, after describing the release on the talk page. However, you may want to consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia. For more information, take a look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Happy editing! Regarding http://www.kurzweilai.net/meme/frame.html?main=/articles/art0505.html?m%3D1 - I am the author. I rewrote Evolutionary progress from scratch, so there is no longer any overlap with my previous publication on this topic. from Wikipedia:Copyright problems:

Copyright owners who submitted their own work to Wikipedia: If you submitted work to Wikipedia which you had previously published (especially online), and your submission was marked as a potential infringement of copyright, stating that you are the copyright holder of the work on the article's talk page helps, but will not likely prevent deletion. It is sufficient to:

  • Make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication.
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions at wikimedia dot org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation.Jon513 19:52, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I decided to simply rewrite the text from scratch. See Talk:Evolutionary progress/Temp and Talk:Largest-Scale Trends in Evolution/Temp --Pdturney 20:08, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, admimistrators patrolling copyright violations are instructed to look at the temp pages and replace any copyrighted text with the new, compliant article. Because of the volume of copyright violations, it's hard to get bumped up. But if you personally know an admin or have dealt with one in the past, you might be able to request that they look at the case instead of waiting for an anonymous one to get around to it. Here are a list of admins: Category:Wikipedia administrators. Best wishes!--Esprit15d 20:16, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This should be merged with the main article on evolution, and needs to be linked (see Help:Link). —Centrxtalk • 23:08, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note that these separate pages are not the proper place for it. If you want to include this information, it needs to be incorporated into the Evolution article, and would need to be discussed there if there is objection. Do not just copy and paste it. See also Wikipedia:No original research. These pages will eventually just be redirected to Evolution (i.e., they will not longer show as separate articles) because the information is either already included there or needs to be included there, not as a separate essay. This is an encyclopedia. —Centrxtalk • 22:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
