Information icon Hello, I'm Francinum. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Port of Koper without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Help request[edit]

Hello, we are the PR Department of Port of Koper and we would like to get our account verified so we can make additional changes to the Port of Koper presentation page on Wikipedia. We would like to get our changes back and if possible further instructions how to manage these changes in the future. Thank you!

See below for information about your conflict of interest and also your user name issues, including the inappropriateness of more than one person using the same account. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 13:47, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Port of Koper. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Port of Koper, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 13:44, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Port of Koper, and I noticed that your username, "Port of Koper", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 13:49, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Bill, thank you for the provided clarifications. As you may see, we have already requested a change of username - we must say you are very fast. Regarding the conflict of interests we are editing and adding general information about the company with statistics and history data, which are neutral and publicly known and of course also published in other medias (you may check our official webpage - www.luka-kp.si). If you agree, we would like to reverse to the up-to-date data that was saved today (12:17, 29 October 2014‎ Mateja Dominko).

Thank you for your help and cooperation.

The content you have been adding is in no way in line with Wikipedia's policy on neutrality, and in fact constitutes some of the most blatant advertising I have seen on Wikipedia to date. I have blocked your account because your message above makes it very clear that your edits represent the work of more than one person; if you are able to convince an administrator that only one person has access to this account you may be unblocked. However, even if you are unblocked, the owner of this account should consider themselves forbidden from editing the Port of Koper article directly, since it is clear that you are incapable of working within Wikipedia's policies. If in the future you have any pertinent information to add, you may request that other editors add it for you by posting a message on the article's associated talk page. October 2014[edit]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because it appears that your account is a shared role account accessed by more than one person (persistent use of the pronoun "we", admission that this account is operated by a PR department). If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Yunshui  15:21, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Yunshui It seems to me that a block in this case is overkill. The user has only made one edit in article space, albeit a COI edit, and one post to the user talk page. Upon being informed that the prior user name was unacceptable, the user immediately changed the name to one that seems to reflect a single person. Upon being informed of the COI policies, the user has not attempted any further edits. As an uninvolved bystander, I would like to see this block lifted in the spirit of WP:BITE. Would you consider removing this block? —    Bill W.    (Talk)  (Contrib)  (User:Wtwilson3)  — 19:35, 29 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The current username is perfectly acceptable; if the account's owner can confirm that they have now changed their password and that only one person now has access to the account, then I'd be willing to lift the block. However, Wikipedia's terms and conditions are quite clear: accounts that can be accessed by more than one person cannot be allowed to edit. Yunshui  07:48, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
