Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please note that our manual of style states that trademarks should be formatted within articles in a manner that reflects standard English capitalization and formatting rules, and are the most common formatting of the mark used by reliable sources independent of the article subject (as opposed to those dictated by the trademark holder). Examples of non-standard formatting include unusual capitalisation (such as letters being capitalized if they are not an acronym or otherwise pronounced individually), special characters (including trademark symbols and other irregular characters), and unpronounced punctuation. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles, and may make the article appear promotional.

If you have any questions about this, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Enjoy your time on Wikipedia. Thank you. ViperSnake151  Talk  15:20, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to metaverse page[edit]

Your recent edit to the page on the metaverse was reverted since it placed an obscure gaming platform into the lede and additionally used an unreliable source. If you want to do shameless promotion of whatever tech project you're personally invested in, go buy Google ads like everyone else. Mewnst (talk) 08:19, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. While your judgment is a bit harsh and not quite accurate, it was likely well intended. The issue with the current introduction is that the metaverse is defined as a network of virtual worlds, but only a virtual world platform (Second Life) is mentioned as an example (not to downplay its historical significance). The "obscure gaming platform" referenced (viverse.com), while new, is significant because it is not another attempt at creating a virtual world, but rather a network that includes already-established virtual worlds (i.e., in VRChat, Engage, etc.) with connectivity between them. A similar concept exists with Microsoft Mesh, which may also be worth mentioning, although it is narrower in scope as it is a tool. As for the source, I tried to find a reliable post, but there has not been widespread coverage on this particular example. If you know of other networks of interconnected virtual worlds from different platforms, those could be worth adding as metaverse examples, too. Postriduan (talk) 01:23, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please disclose conflicts of interest. I can't think of any other reason to be fixated on the inclusion of a little-known HTC product, and the restoration of the non-notable page related to the product, when it has no notable press coverage aside from the usual PR drivel. Mewnst (talk) 09:34, 11 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a big fan of the original HTC Vive and an avid VR user. The metaverse narrative on Wikipedia is heavily skewed towards coverage of just one company/brand from largely US-based sources, so I would like to bring balance by adding relevant information about something I'm familiar with. If you had read the sources, you'd see that Viverse is not a "product," just a new platform that links the current VIVE products and services to other platforms like VRChat. This connectivity is what I found so significant, but since you claim the current press coverage has not been notable, is its addition to the page too early? Looking at the page revision history, I can see that anything I contribute is going to be unwelcome. I will cease making contributions and take time to review the lengthy Wiki guidelines in more detail. Postriduan (talk) 01:40, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
