August 2019[edit]

Please stop bloating up Talk:Ghirth with repetition. Also it's completely unhelpful to drop chunks of promotional text in Hindi into the English Wikipedia. Bishonen | talk 15:02, 25 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

  • I understand that you haven't seen my note above, Rahul. I've had to block you from editing to get your attention, since you keep on repeating the same text at Talk:Ghirth. You will be unblocked if you respond here, below, and explain what it is you want to achieve on the talkpage, and especially why you paste in the same text over and over in different sections. It's unlikely that you'll get any replies when you monopolise and bloat up the talkpage in that way. Bishonen | talk 15:31, 25 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

Hi I just wanted to correct the information on ghirths because wiki page contains a false and misleading information on ghirths based on one writer.

Ghirth[edit]

Hi i want to correct the information which is posted on ghirth page as it is misleading and wrong and far from reality. Rahul29feburary (talk) 15:37, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you'll have to explain it better and, especially, more briefly. After I reverted your first batch of edits here, you have added eight more posts to the page. These three are the same:[1][2][3]; they're all posted within the same minute. Please check the history of Talk:Ghirth to see what I mean. And these other three posts, [4][5][6], are all the same. It was just like that, or worse, with the additions that I reverted. I suppose you're not making these repetitive posts on purpose, but I don't understand how it happens. Do you? In any case, it's making the talkpage impossible for other people to use. Also, you need to use edit summaries to explain what you're doing. See the edit where I reverted you, here? That contains an edit summary. Every time you edit, you get a small field at the bottom where it says "Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)". Please write your edit summaries there. And, as I said above, don't post chunks of Hindi text in the English Wikipedia. You must translate it. Bishonen | talk 16:00, 25 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]
  • OK, I'll wait for you to reply; I can't unblock you unless you indicate that you understand these problems and how to avoid them. Bishonen | talk 16:19, 25 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]
  • Meanwhile, I'll mention another problem: please give your sources in a way others can understand, and find. A reference like "Meet India’s newest toilet cleaners, the Brahmins" isn't useful without a link to where it can be found, or, at the very least, the name of the newspaper (?) where it was published. "Source divya himachal , check the gotras list" isn't much use either. What is it, a book? What's the title and the year of publication? Note especially that sources from the Raj era, such as A glossary of the Tribes and Castes of the Punjab and North-West Frontier Province by H.A. Rose, are not considered reliable on Wikipedia. Please use modern, preferably academic, sources. Bishonen | talk 16:19, 25 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

Sure i will take care of the guidelines ,I have provide a genuine source on this ghirth page which contradicts the information which is there ,can you please take the action.

  • What guidelines? You need to answer my questions in a much more specific way, such as why did you post so repetitively and how are you going to make sure it doesn't happen again? What genuine source are you talking about — do you mean Rose's Glossary? Do you understand what I said about Raj era sources? I'm sorry, but so far you haven't posted anything useful at Talk:Ghirth, or any proper response to me here. Please note that Wikipedia is not for caste promotion. Bishonen | talk 15:25, 26 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

Please refer to this book"Pottery-making cultures and Indian civilization Book by Baidyanath ".Please read page 51 about caste of kangra

This is what author mentioned : In the kangra valley, the caste stratification is not much different as described above, however potters occupy a relatively lower positions. The only difference is that the uttam(first) category has been futher sub-divided into first grade and second grade. In the first grade come the brahmins and the rajputs, and in the second grade are included the khatris and the chaudharies or jats.but there are numerous instances of the rajput taking wives from the chaudhary castes.

Note:Everybody knows that ghirth are known as Chaudhary in kangra even mentioned in wiki page also and author has mentioned high (first ) class is divided in to two grades and chaudhary belong to 2nd grade of first class with khatris, and author also puts chaudhary and jats as same because author used chaudhary or jats. As author mentioned intermarriages between rajput and chaudhary. Rajput has classified rajputs in catgory like first class , 2nd class and ghirths (chaudharies)are low graded rajputs as katoach kings are different from ghirth rajputs because ghirth are from bahtis , sials (parmar) and chahuans and lost their status to jats in kangra valley.

  • Thank you. But what is the relevance of it? I don't see anything about pottery-making in the article Ghirth. Talk:Ghirth is for discussing improvements to the page Ghirth, and I don't see that your quote does that. (Do you understand it, Sitush?) Please explain the purpose of your Baidyanath reference, and what change to the article you want to base on it. An addition that Rajput sometimes intermarried with Ghirth? Or what? Also, please engage with what I've said above, because I'm getting tired of repeating it: how are you going to make sure you don't post so repetitively again? And do you understand what I said about Raj era sources? It's customary on Wikipedia to discuss things. Bishonen | talk 18:55, 26 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

Hi, This book is about pottery making and pottery castes,in this book author traces the status of potters caste and the general society of Himachal Pradesh and while doing this she has mentioned how the caste structure of kangra( Himachal Pradesh ) was set up , this book is relevant to the caste of potters and author has discussed the whole society of kangra in which she has mentioned that ghirth Ware called chaudharies or jats, and ghirth status is not low caste but comes under first class, and the first class is divided in to two class and ghirt are not low class. 2) wiki page has mentioned ghirth are only in Himachal which is not true it’s is a caste which is registered as Bahti in 1881 in government records of Punjab, this caste is present in Himachal ( only in kangra region) and in Punjab .

Hi ,I was new to Wikipedia so I made a mistake of repeating talks, it was my mistake and I understand raj era sources wiki don’t consider that, but I want to tell you all caste articles are based on raj books and wiki has still used information as source which is based on raj era records

  • I don't think other articles are based on Raj sources. Please see this discussion from 2014, which is the basis of discrediting Raj sources. If other articles use them, it's by mistake. If you have seen any article that does, please mention it so I can check. However, if a modern academic has in their turn used Raj era records, then we accept that, on the assumption that the academic author is competent to understand and take responsibility for which records can be used. But we, on Wikipedia, can't refer to Raj books such as Rose's glossary.
However. I hope you now understand how to avoid the repetition, so I'll say no more about that. If you post below to state that you will do these four things, I'll unblock you:
  1. Please be more concise on Talk:Ghirth.
  2. Please explain the purpose of the text you post (do not post long quotes from sources!), and what change to the article you want to base on it.
  3. Please use explanatory edit summaries for all posts.
  4. Please always keep in mind that Wikipedia is not for caste promotion.

Self-published sources[edit]

Please see WP:SPS: A Demographic Uniqueness of Kangra: The Ghrits is published by Notion Press, a self-publishing company, and therefore not an acceptable source for Wikipedia articles. utcursch | talk 15:47, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
