Unsourced edits on David T. Abercrombie[edit]

Hi,

I saw you recently changed the year of death of David T. Abercrombie from 1931 to 1937. However, the 1931 date already had a source in a New York Times obituary. I found another one here (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/18071757/david-thomas-abercrombie), where you can see his gravestone and death certificate, both showing a date of 1931. Why did you change the year to 1937?

Please take more care in the future and only add things that have reliable sources to Wikipedia! Signed: Knuthove (talk) 00:21, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In one of my friends YouTube video it said 1937 not 1931. That was what I got. But it turns out je accidentally said the wrong year. RatPack1970 (talk) 04:15, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Youtube videos are not generally good sources, unless the person in the video is an expert on the topic. A lot of people trust Wikipedia, and a lot of other websites simply copy whatever is on Wikipedia as fact. Adding poorly sourced material that turns out to be false hurts that trust and spreads misinformation. At the very least you should check the existing sources in an article to see if they contradict what you are writing. Here is a short beginners guide to referencing on Wikipedia. I hope you will continue to help improve Wikipedia with well sourced information going forward. Knuthove (talk) 13:19, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DMY to MDY[edit]

Why are you changing these? Acroterion (talk) 00:42, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again, why are you changing the date format? Acroterion (talk) 02:29, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Us Americans use Month Date, Year sir. Unless you live outside the USA then I understand. If you don't then I dint get why you do this... RatPack1970 (talk) 02:34, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me for sounding rude. But I've had a rough day. Also I mea t to type "don't" RatPack1970 (talk) 02:36, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is a global encyclopedia, and what “us Americans” do is not universal. Most Europeans use DMY. Don’t change topics pertaining to a European topic without good reason. And don’t lecture other editors about “us Americans.” And I’m one of “us Americans. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad day. Don’t use it as an excuse to edit-war over inappropriate changes. Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
