[edit]

Hello Rita gross. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Rita M. Gross, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following the reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 14:23, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BLPN

[edit]

Further to your post at BLPN, you're quite right to complain about the material that was added to your biography. The content added was in violation of our BLP policy, specifically WP:BLPPRIMARY, and Wikipedia owes you an apology! (The incident of profane vandalism you refer to was discovered and undone within seconds.)

Given that there have been repeated BLP violations at this article by non-registered users, one possibility to address the problem may be to apply semi-protection (which means that anonymous non-registered users cannot edit the article). At any rate, I've now added the article to my watchlist (and I've asked for the picture to be rotated!).

Further to Demiurge's comments at the noticeboard, if you're sure you'd rather have the article deleted, it's also possible for you to nominate it for deletion yourself; per the instructions given here: Wikipedia:Afd#How_to_nominate_a_single_page_for_deletion. If that sounds too daunting or tedious, I am happy to do it for you. As Demiurge says, this is not guaranteed to be successful – it depends on an assessment of notability, but the wishes of BLP subjects are taken into account in cases where the biography subject is far from being a household name, and there have been documented problems with the article in the past.

Very sorry this wasn't handled correctly, and thank you for bringing it to our attention. I spoke to the two editors who reverted the material back in, and I see they've apologised to you as well now. Note that I am not a Wikipedia official or anything, just another editor like yourself; but I do try to keep an eye on BLP issues. Regards, --JN466 18:32, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That text above is a prefab welcome template. It's not exactly how I would have written it ;), but it contains some useful links. Best, --JN466 18:36, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome. Another editor has nominated the page for deletion, in line with your request; the deletion discussion is at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Rita_M._Gross. Best wishes, --JN466 02:04, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
