Speedy deletion nomination of Merry Alpern
[edit]Hello SamChristopherCornwell,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Merry Alpern for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, dci | TALK 18:58, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
My apologies if the article was deleted too soon. However, any article should demonstrate the significance and notability of its subject, and must do so using reliable sources. Generally, some degree of reliable, third-party coverage of the subject is needed. If you are able to meet those criteria, you should be able to create an article on Alpern. dci | TALK 19:51, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Reliable sources
[edit]Hi DCL, thank you for responding.
Did you see the note I put here with several reliable sources I picked from the web in just a few minutes - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Merry_Alpern
Sam.
- Yes; while Amazon is not considered a reliable source, the other two are quite good. The only real problem is that their coverage of Alpern herself is fairly minimal, particularly in the petapixel.com source, in which she is not mentioned. dci | TALK 20:03, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- OK, part of what I wanted to achieve with this article is to find out more about Merry Alpern with the help of the Wikipedia community. I can assure you she is an established figure in the photographic art work, much the same as Joachim Schmid, Penelope Umbrico & John Stezaker
Can we undelete the page and continue adding sources to it please? I would hope that other members of Wikipedia could assist.
- Unfortunately, I don't have access to deletion/undeletion tools; I merely posted the deletion tags on the page. I will see what can be done regarding this subject, and will get back to you ASAP. dci | TALK 22:28, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks DCL. As I am wary of breaking something I'll wait to hear from you rather than try to figure it out myself.
- Hey DCL, any news?
- Yes; WP:Requests for undeletion is the place to go. I would advise that the page be placed in your user-space, rather than in the general encyclopedic area, at least for the time being. This way, you have a place to develop it prior to moving it into article space. I would be glad to assist with any further actions you need help with. dci | TALK 22:54, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
- Just one minor note - my username is actually "DCI", not DCL. The font color is a bit too bright and makes it hard to distinguish. dci | TALK 22:54, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Article userfied
[edit]I have "userfied" your article - moved it into a sub-page in your user space at User:SamChristopherCornwell/Merry Alpern where you can work on it. Unfortunately, new users often put in a dozen words or so and never come back to them, and we do not want readers of the encyclopedia to come on obviously incomplete articles, so articles that don't contain enough to make clear why the subject is important or significant may get speedily deleted.
If you want to to take time over developing an article, it is best to start in a user sub-page: next time, you can do that by going to Help:Userspace draft and filling in the title, which will set up a draft page like the one I have made for Merry Alpern.
Read WP:Your first article for advice, and WP:Writing better articles for more. When you think the article is ready, you should either ask user INeverCry (talk), the deleting administrator, whether s/he thinks the article is ready to be moved to the main encyclopedia, or use the "Submit the page!" button in the box at the top to send it to WP:Articles for creation, where an experienced user will look at it and either accept it or give you feedback.
