Ladder
[edit]G'day Scotty, I've changed the ladder on the AFL Season 2006 article to a template so that it can be easily shown on pages such as Portal:Australian rules football. To edit the ladder, simply go to Template:2006_AFL_season/Ladder and everything will be up to date in an unlimited number of places. I'm also thinking of adding some more info to the ladder, like Wins over/under 7 points, Interstate wins etc. It'd be a lot of information but I reckon if we make the points/% fonts bigger it won't detract from it. Would be interested to hear your thoughts, Rogerthat Talk 10:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- BTW, re the VFL and TAC Cup ladders - great idea. Would get more followers of grassroots footy interested in Wikipedia if we expand our information. Rogerthat Talk 10:44, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- It should probably be in a separate table - have both a "simple" ladder and an "advanced ladder". Rogerthat Talk 05:34, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
AFL team name templates
[edit]Heya. I made the 16 AFL team name templates specifically to be a template for a small logo with the full team name. These templates are now being used in a few articles, so it is a problem if you change them because they have been included in articles for the purpose of having the full name. If you want templates with shorter names, my advice is to make different templates instead of overwriting the purpose of the current ones. Remy B 08:16, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
VFL season 2007
[edit]Nice work on the article mate, it looks good. Not sure about having the AFL ladder for every week though - I'm sure just the current one on the AFL season 2007 article will do for a week-to-week ladder. But it looks interesting. Cheers, Rogerthat Talk 06:18, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Have you seen this proposed guideline? I would like to see the articles you have written regarding Bendigo Pioneers and Dandenong Stingrays clearly meet up to the inclusion criteria outlined - that is, could you please demonstrate directly that these clubs have been the direct subject of muliple coverage independent of the TAC Cup. If you are not able to demonstrate such coverage then I will be taking these articles to AfD.Garrie 02:47, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- Please demonstrate (by WP:CITEing ) that these teams have been discussed in the media or football history or somewhere, otherwise I will list the articles for deletion at WP:AFD.
- Mattinbgn has proposed notability guidelines for AFL teams, and these teams do not seem to meet those criteria - but media coverage independent of the team and TAC cup would demonstrate notability regardless of secondary notability criteria regardless of project proposals.Garrie 06:41, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- I would not see the VFL as really independent of the team or the competition. They would be a primary reference. As such you could use them to ensure details are correct, but not to assert notability of the team. In my opinion you would really need to cite coverage from the media or other publications, not from AFL / VFL funded promotional material (including websites) to establish notability.Garrie 06:58, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- You asked:
- What about a link from the AGE which says the teams for the VFL and TAC cups from round 1 2003? StatsFanatic 07:11, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
- My response is, this is an article about the TAC Cup, not about the individual teams, and as such it asserts notability for the competition. It does not assert notability for the teams which participate in the competition.
- If you find more than one article about a team, then you have notability for that team. Asserting notability for six teams is a lot more work than asserting notability for the competition they participate in.Garrie 11:23, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- A couple of points / issues about the changes you mention at my talk page
- This is really about TAC Cup results - it is trivial mention of the teams involved. It doesn't give any real insight into either of the teams, it only discusses their scoring players. You need something which discusses the team culturally / from a historical perspective / their performance over the seasons, not just on a round-to-round basis (other links seem similar - Round 2 TAC Results Dandenong vs Oakleigh, the URL says TACCUP STORY, Match report Gippsland vs Murray...)
- Once you have done that - The article / book / chapter you are citing, needs to be worked into the text. Something like:
Sample article text
[edit]- In the ??th round of the TAC Cup, Sandringham Dragons were able to defeat Bendiog Pioneers by a huge margin. This was largely due to the defensive efforts of Rex Taylor, Grant Ford and Toby Thoolan, as well as the attacking prowess of Tim Martin, Steven Strrbants and Robbie Tarrant. [1]
References
[edit]end of sample article.
- Simply providing the external link does not assert notability within the article.
- Yes, it may be hard to find non-trivial coverage of these teams - because overall, it is the competition getting coverage. You need something more like this article, about generational change at Collingwood - yes it uses the results of a round to illustrate generational change, but the article is about what's happening at the team, not what happened in the round of football.
- I am trying to get these articles in a state where they would stand up at AfD. But the links you have provided are coverage of the TAC Cup rounds with only trivial mention of the teams which played those rounds.
VFL Jumpers
[edit]Hey mate, I made the VFL jumpers myself. That's why the designs are the most basic, and not the intricate ones like Tasmania and Frankston, etc. If you haven't already seen it, there is a website with AFL jumpers www.footyjumpers.com and I got the template through that guy. Cheers, Seth Cohen 07:35, 27 April 2007 (UTC).
- Yeah, the VFL ones aren't on the website. I made them myself using the template that he uses. Cheers, Seth Cohen 13:09, 28 April 2007 (UTC).
- I got the template emailed to me from the guy who runs the footyjumpers website. Just so you know, the Coburg jumper did have navy blue... it was the same navy blue that was used in the logo. I guess it looks a bit clearer with yours but I just did it to try and be the most official I could. Cheers, Seth Cohen 09:51, 29 April 2007 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:Bendigo Pioneers.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Bendigo Pioneers.gif. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:54, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:CoburgClashJumper.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:CoburgClashJumper.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Melbourne meetup
[edit]Hey all, just a reminder that there's a meetup tomorrow at 11am in North Melbourne. There are more details at the meetup page. Hope to see you tomorrow! SteveBot (talk) 05:00, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
The article 2006 VFL season and TAC Cup season has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Incomplete and unusual blend of 2 distinct leagues. Partial duplicate of 2006 VFL season.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The-Pope (talk) 07:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
