Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Vitcomms! Your additions to Victorian Institute of Teaching have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

[edit]You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:
- Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. - Thanks @331dot. We've taken the time to review the policies. Instead, we would like to request an edit.
- The page currently says "The Institute registers teachers working in all schools in Victoria." and, if possible, we would like this updated to "The Institute registers teachers and early childhood teachers working in schools and early childhood settings in Victoria." The reason for this is, as it currently reads, early childhood teachers would most likely perceive that registration doesn't apply to them when it is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Evidence of this can be found on this page: https://www.vit.vic.edu.au/register/purpose

- @Yamla, we have read the respective policies. Can you please explicitly outline what the issue is with username Vt2002? This represents myself as an individual, not the organisation.
- Apologies for not using the right introduction before the request. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vitcomms (talk • contribs)
- The 'vt' part of it is clearly short for "Vit Comms". --Yamla (talk) 22:34, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

- I understand that my account was blocked for breaching the COI and paid disclosure policies. This will not happen again. In future, provided this account can be unblocked, I hope to contribute to articles about teaching and education in Victoria, Australia. Where this happens in a work capacity, I will always disclose, using the correct paid contribution disclosure. Where a conflict of interest is present, I will follow instructions specified in the conflict of interest policy.
This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by Victorian Institute of Teaching for their contributions to Wikipedia. |

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Reviewers are prevented from carrying out changes requested by a blocked account. If and when the issues which caused the block are resolved in the future, the COI editor is asked to make their request on the talk page of the article involved. |

- The conflict of interest in this instance is that I am an employee of the Victorian Institute of Teaching. I do not intend on requesting any other changes. Vitcomms (talk) 22:20, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

This request was made by an IP. If it was you, remember to log in when posting. We don't need the whole url when linking to another Wikipedia article or page, simply place the title of the target in double brackets like this, [[Anthony Albanese]] becomes Anthony Albanese. 331dot (talk) 09:15, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
