Bald Freak Music

I guess your former identity was either RonBumblefoot (talk · contribs) or RScalzo (talk · contribs), but better stay with this username now, you shouldn't use more than one at a time. You might like to look at your former talk page.

I deleted the Bald Freak Music page, along with some others, as a result of the deletion debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bald Freak Music. You will see that the main issue at stake was notability, Wikipedia's term for "significant and important enough to have an article", which is not a matter of subjective opinion but means that a subject has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means substantial comment, more than just listings; reliable excludes Myspace and sites where anyone can post what they like; independent excludes the subject's own website. There are more detailed guidelines for musical performers and bands and for organizations and companies. Standards, or at least their enforcement, have probably risen since this article was first put in.

It has also been a matter of concern in the history of these articles that they were being posted and edited in a promotional style by the people concerned. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is not intended as a site for people to post about themselves, their bands, their companies, and is extremely sensitive about being used for promotion of any kind: you should read the guidelines:

If you want to reintroduce this article (see WP:Why was my page deleted?#What you can do about it) there are two possibilities:

Deletion Review - see WP:DRV - which is a request for the result of the deletion debate to be overturned. This is not intended as a way to continue the discussion, but more like a legal appeal - an argument that the case was not correctly decided. You will see that before going down that route you are asked to invite the closing admin to change his mind - you have quite correctly done that, but I see no reason to.
Rewrite the article and submit it again. Before doing that, read WP:Recreation of previously deleted pages and the COI guidelines above. You would need to declare your interest and ensure that you provided independent references to establish notability. The article would most likely be checked again at AfD.

John - thanks for the detailed response. All your points are valid, but again, I'll reiterate that the label in question is home to a member of Guns N' Roses and a member of Coheed and Cambria, two bands with worldwide notoriety and well-represented on Wiki. Would that not qualify as both 'significant' and 'reliable' - both artists in question, Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal and Chris Pennie, are also represented on Wiki, and have cited the label in various interviews, both print and online.

As for posting promotionally, we have a few staffers who may or may not have posted info about the label over the last few months, including info on the artists involved. Their primary responsibility is to correct factual errors posted by other Wiki members, fans, etc. - *not* to add any promotional info. Of course I would prefer the Deletion Review option, as rewrite the article and submitting again is (a) time consuming and (b) may result in the same problems we're having here now with deletion. Let me know what can be done, if anything.

Deletion Review has already been started by another editor, User:Aisha9152 - see WP:Deletion review#Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, though I am not sure whether he is contesting just that article or all five. JohnCD (talk) 17:28, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
