Permit to purchase map

Greetings, Sharanrokx. I have removed the "permit to purchase" map from the "Gun laws in the United States by state" article, because, as I said it my edit summary, I think it gives undue weight to one gun law, requiring a permit to purchase a firearm. It's possible that there's another, more specific Wikipedia article where the map would be appropriate. But, I'm not sure that the map is accurate. For example, according to the map, Wisconsin requires a permit to purchase a firearm. Can you provide a reliable reference for that? I could be wrong but I thought that Wisconsin does not require a permit. That's not the only example either. - Greetings, I thought atleast one map is better, if you want I can add more maps. All state tables don't have same criteria. Maybe we should have same criteria(rows) for each table & add specifications in notes column. With regards to maps in individual law pages. I don't have enough information for new "Gun Permit" page. When I divided laws into Who(can buy/use guns), Where(it can be used), what(type of gun can be used); permit seemed most important and worthy of main page. Let me know where I can add this map. - In my opinion, whether or not a state requires some kind of background check for all firearm sales or transfers is more important than whether or not they require a permit to purchase. That is, there are two main ways that a state can require background checks: (1) requiring a permit to purchase, or (2) just requiring a background check by a licensed dealer, or by law enforcement, without necessarily requiring a state-issued permit. The map as it is only covers the first situation, but maybe covering both would be better. As for what article would be the best one to add the map to, I'm not sure, but two possibilities are Universal background check and Gun show loophole. Meanwhile I am still concerned about the accuracy of the map. Sourcing it from the state tables is probably a good start, but Wikipedia is not a reliable source for Wikipedia, if you know what I mean. Third-party sources are the best. Here's one example, check it out. Having said all that, I can only represent my own opinions. Other editors may have different opinions about all this. - I updated map to include background checks for private sales to put it in universal check wiki. I used existing "gun laws by state" wiki & this. However, I feel some color categories may be wrongly represented, since it was based on multiple yes/no data. Is the giffords data current? Can I directly use that? - I agree that some of the color categories might not be accurate. I'm not sure. In general I think it's actually rather difficult to figure out what the laws of each state are. I do think the Guardian is a good reference, but perhaps more references would be better. Perhaps the new map has too many categories, so it's more difficult to verify its accuracy, and also more difficult to understand. Another point is that the color scheme might be considered biased by some editors. Red might be construed as bad, so the map could be understood to mean that not having background checks for private sales is bad. Of course, many people think that it is bad, but it's a controversial point. On the plus side, I agree that the Universal background check article might be the best place for a map like this. In closing, remember also that other editors' opinions could possibly be quite different than mine.
