Copyright[edit]

Copyright is a very serious issue for Wikipedia. It is not enough to assert authorship of material. For one thing, we have no way to be sure that someone on the end of a wire is who they say they are; for another, release to Wikipedia involves more than just permission to reproduce: it gives permission to any reader to copy, alter, and use for any purpose including commercial, and it is essential that the copyright owner understands and agrees to the license terms. So it is necessary to follow he procedure explained in Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. For more information, see Wikipedia:Copyrights#Contributors' rights and obligations.

It may not be worth making a copyright release, because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a notice-board for posting material written for another purpose. Articles need to establish notability of their subject by means of references that show significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. There is good advice on writing acceptable articles at WP:Your first article. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:06, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
