September 2010[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. Courcelles 10:22, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'm violated the username policy and i wish to change my username

Decline reason:

Not necessary to unblock; your other account, User:Gallivanter, should suffice. --jpgordon::==( o ) 18:14, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On another note, this user may have possibly created at sock, User:MimeKaur. Created today at 08:43, 20 September 2010, about 6 days after this original user was blocked. This users only edit was to recreate that page to more or less the same version at the deleted version that this user created. Don't know if a CU is required, but I may suggest further blocking if this is proven to be a sock. The Helpful One 17:33, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi jpgordon, The other account is not belong to me so i got no idea that related to me. I hope you can consider to allow me have access to wikipedia and the reason i requested to change my username because i would like to use wiki in future. I hope you can consider my request so i can contribute on wiki. Thanks

Decline reason:

You have not addressed the issues mentioned in your block notice, apart from the username issue. There still remain the questions of conflict of interest and promotional editing. Before considering making another unblock request I suggest reading the block notice above carefully, especially the section headed "What can I do now?". In addition, I find the evidence of sockpuppetry totally convincing, and that would be sufficient reason for a block even if the other issues were cleared up. What about User:MimeKaur? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:16, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A new editor creates, word-for-word, the same article that a recently blocked editor created, and the use of the same IP is admitted. How WP:DUCK do you have to be? --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 13:40, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, just to clear things up properly i have found out the other two accounts (MimeKaur and Gallivanter) are belong to my colleague and they used the company internet to access wikipedia. Our company has static IP address which is 202.179.109.106 therefore you have detected multiple account from the same IP address. I been informed that my username is violated the wiki policies so i requested to change the username so i can use this account for my future contribution. I have no intention to promote anything but to contribute information i know. The IP you will get for this message wouldn't be the same as the above IP address because i'm not in the company at this moment and i have dynamic IP address. I hope you able to consider my request and unblock me from contribute any articles and also allow me to change my username so that i wouldn't want to violated the guideline.
I have include the information for the company IP Address
firewall.totalsportsasia.com. 600 IN CNAME totalsportsasia.com.
totalsportsasia.com. 600 IN A 202.179.109.106

It is very remarkable that two colleagues, without one another's knowledge, should independently create an article on the same topic, within a few days of one another. That virtually the whole article which these two colleagues created independently, without one another's knowledge, should be word for word identical, makes this remarkable coincidence almost uncanny. That one of them opened an account and created the article while the other was blocked makes it truly astounding. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:55, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|Hi, i hope you understand the IP address we used in our organisation and i hope we clear on this issue so i can explain to you what on the article. First of all i'm deeply apologize for the article posted under this username and mimekaur. Is solely our mistakes which we doesn't communicate properly. I'm apologize for the mistake that we created and i promise will not repeat the same mistake again. I have informed MimeKaur to handle the articles in Wikipedia and will share with me so that we wouldn't submit the same article in Wikipedia again. I hope you can consider to my request and allow me to change the username to appropriate username which follow the wikipedia guideline and hope you able to unblock this account.
Once again i do apologize for the same article created twice in Wikipedia. Totalsportsasia (talk) 01:03, 22 September 2010 (UTC)}}

Part of the problem is that you seem to have a relationship with this organization; we ask editors closely related to a subject to avoid writing articles about the subject. It's called a conflict of interest and causes problems judging the importance of a subject and can often make it seem biased. If we unblock you, would you agree to not write articles about Total Sports Asia? Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:39, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i'll agree not to write an article on Total Sports Asia where this will violated the rules for promoting or advertising purposes. That's a reason i requested to change my username to my suggested username (Soonkies). I wouldn't want my username to be block for such mistake again. I just wonder how we can avoid someone from the same organisation use the wiki as we use the same IP address? Totalsportsasia (talk) 07:38, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No; the question you were asked was "would you agree to not write articles about Total Sports Asia?" No conditions; just a yes or no will do. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:45, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be being evasive, though I will concede that this may be a language problem. Let me me be clear. You must agree not to edit ANY aricles on this subject. Not just the same articles. Any at all. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 18:14, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, Yes agree.

Decline reason:

Please redo this request with more details about what exactly you are agreeing to. Perhaps something like "I agree that I will ........." would be best, so that the reviewing admin can see exactly what you will or will not do. Just saying "I agree" is not sufficient. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 09:07, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi, I agree that I will not create the Total Sports Asia article again. Totalsportsasia (talk) 02:02, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I am taking the unusual step of declining a second unblock request (normally I would only deal with one), as you were not asked to agree to not create the specific article again,. As Anthony Bradbury pointed out above in his decline, You must agree not to edit ANY aricles on this subject. Not just the same articles. Any at all. If you cannot explicitly guarantee this, then you cannot be unblocked - you appear to be trying to avoid saying that. If there are more unblock requests which do not state this explicitly, then you may lose the right to edit this page. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 07:34, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock-spamun|Soonky|Because of my mistakes and i'm agree not to edit ANY articles at all even the same articles.}}

An additional important point: if others from your office make the same or similar edits, this could quite conceivably be considered to be the use of meatpuppets, and you may find yourself blocked for the use of socks. As you now understand WP:COI/WP:PROMO - and you apparently are aware of the personnel in your organization who hold the other accounts, it would be wise for you to inform them of the same things - their actions will reflect on you. Does this make sense? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:19, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
