Conflict of Interest[edit]

Your recent clarification of the IRRI founding date seems to be good work, and you seem to be well-motivated. Nevertheless, you have a conflict of interest in editing this article. An organization's PR people shouldn't be editing the encyclopedia article about that organization. It might help us all if you'd read the COI material. Lou Sander (talk) 11:39, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree I have a conflict of interest - that's why I created my user page so that it was clear who I was etc in accordance with the conflict of interest suggestions relating to transparency. I'll also add explicitly to my user page that I have a conflict of interest in editting the IRRI page so people can assess my edits accordingly and there is no doubt about who I am etc. While I recognise the conflict of interest I also want to help make accurate information available and being inside the organization does give me access to knowledge that might not be widely know externally that I can help give other people access to. Perhaps I can refer some page ideas on to you (or other editors if any show an interest in this page) to evaluate and possibly include in the future to avoid conflicts of interest. It would be great if my presence could die out here and others became active contributors! Sophie Clayton (talk) 04:22, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 6[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited System of Rice Intensification, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page WWF (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Independent references[edit]

Hi Sophie. Thanks for adding the info to C4 carbon fixation about C4 rice. Can I ask that if you add more content you make sure not to use the IRRI website as a reference unless it is absolutely necessary? If information is important enough to be included here, then independent references should exist that can be referenced. I've removed the IRRI references and added new ones instead. I also tweaked some of the language to make the text more neutral. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Cheers SmartSE (talk) 12:39, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks SmartSE - good advice, changes and links. The link to C4 Rice Project broke as there is no wiki page on it (I don't think it warrants one) - so I'll relink that back to the original page so people can get more info and re-add the reference to the source media release on the news about the project as I think original source material is relevant - but better when combined with third party source info as you have indicated and added. Thanks Sophie Clayton (talk) 08:40, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed them again - per WP:ADV you shouldn't be linking to IRRI if you work for them and they don't provide any extra information to what it already there. C4 Rice Project is not broken - it is just a WP:REDLINK - the project is sufficiently notable so a redlink serves as an encouragement for someone to start an article on it. I should point out that you probably shouldn't do this, but I or someone else will get round to it one day. SmartSE (talk) 10:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop directly editing articles where you have a conflict of interest[edit]

Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard regarding a possible conflict of interest incident in which you may be involved. Thank you.

If you will have a look at the plain and simple conflict of interest guidelines, guideline number two is "Do not directly edit articles about yourself, your organization, your clients, or your competitors."

Despite this, and despite previous warnings from other editors to stop editing these articles, you have continued to do so. Please stop. You are welcome to make suggestions on talk pages, but direct editing of articles where you have a conflict of interest is prohibited. -- UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ]# ▄ 08:01, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notification UseTheCommandLine - I have also responded over at the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. You're right, I have not been careful enough to observe the Conflict of Interest requirements. I think I understand it better now and will make no further edits directly to pages - just make suggestions on talk pages only. Thanks for alerting me, I will go and check through the edits you referred to and others and remove (where they haven't been already) and make suggestions to relevant talk pages instead.Sophie Clayton (talk) 03:09, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you are self-reverting some of your edits. I appreciate that, and think it speaks to your willingness to abide by community standards. Thank you. -- UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ]# ▄ 03:21, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - some are easy to revert but I did a whole bunch on System of Rice Intensification and a few on Genetically Modified Rice a while back, I guess reverting them is the right thing to do too even if others have subsequently edited? I'll try and capture the changes for talk for others to consider instead.Sophie Clayton (talk) 03:27, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's dependent on the local editors, really. Give it a shot, but also solicit help on the talk page, as well as perhaps with some relevant wikiprojects. if the consensus of the relevant editing community is that it is fine to leave as it is, or in some modified form, then it's ok, but the most important thing is to get that interaction and have that communication with the people who are working on those pages. -- UseTheCommandLine ~/talk ]# ▄ 03:37, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Alright - that's helpful, thanks. Sophie Clayton (talk) 03:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Offer to train by phone or Skype[edit]

Hello. I appreciate your expertise and if you would share in accord with Wikipedia community guidelines then I would be willing to give you some coaching on how to comply with policies. In return I would ask that you also share some expertise in a way which does not promote your organization's interest, but which does promote good multi-perspective discussion within your field. If you would like to talk more then email me at Special:EmailUser/Bluerasberry. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 03:22, 17 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
