Welcome![edit]

Hello, Spawnrec, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as William Berlind, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

New to Wikipedia? Please consider taking a look at the our introductory tutorial or reviewing the contributing to Wikipedia page to learn the basics about editing. Below are a few other good pages about article creation.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions ask me on my talk page or you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Robert McClenon (talk) 07:10, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Robert McClenon:, thank you for your welcome message. I have been looking through the links in it and I’m learning a lot about things I can do. It looks like you have been editing for a long time and you have a lot of awards, so I hope you don’t mind me asking if you are an admin? I hope to become an admin myself and I’m trying to learn about the process and get advice. Spawnrec (talk) 18:05, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AIV[edit]

Can you explain the reasoning behind this and this? —{CrypticCanadian} 22:04, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I was actively fighting that vandal and felt that it was my report to make. Thank you. Spawnrec (talk) 22:05, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
For future reference, please do not replace other editors reports at WP:AIV. It really doesn't matter which person makes the report, as long as they are reported for the correct reason. Please do not make this a habit, even if you are the one directly involved with the incident. Thanks. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 22:11, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Fighting vandalism is a collaborative effort. Nobody gets credit for AIV reports, so reverting others' reports is rather petty and probably against WP:TPO as well. —{CrypticCanadian} 22:11, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I get that, but I hope you can understand that I am trying to establish a record of vandal-fighting that will hopefully help me become an admin. I won’t do it any more, though. Just wanted you to understand where I’m coming from. Spawnrec (talk) 22:14, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Replacing other editors reports at WP:AIV or any other page does not establish any sort of record here and can be considered disruptive editing. I'll have you know that editors that exhibit persistent disruptive behavior like this can actually deter their chances of running a successful RfA. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 22:18, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, and like I said, I didn’t realize that until you two pointed it out. I’ll keep that in mind going forward. Spawnrec (talk) 22:21, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Adminship is a responsibility, not a promotion. Editing Wikipedia with the specific motivation of becoming an admin is a serious red flag at RfA. You may want to read WP:ANOT. —{CrypticCanadian} 22:23, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My motivation for editing Wikipedia is to demonstrate community service and scholarly activity, by keeping Wikipedia reliable and free of vandalism. Spawnrec (talk) 22:28, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If you don’t mind, I’m curious about how you got a custom signature? Spawnrec (talk) 22:30, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:SIG#CustomSig{CrypticCanadian} 00:53, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't get a chance to respond to this earlier, but as far as your purpose here on Wikipedia is concerned, I'd note that your user page doesn't give a great impression: "Being a Wikipedia admin would also count as leadership experience and being in a position of authority." It seems rather self-serving. —{CrypticCanadian} 02:15, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
