Please review my merger
Dear SpikeToronto,
After receiving consensus among interested prior editors I completed the merger. Since I am a nooby to editing wikipedia, please review my changes.
Thank you for your time, 24.21.215.155 (talk) 22:44, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, SpikeToronto. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Your userbox
Hi there. I was thinking of modifying your userbox User:SpikeToronto/userboxes/No Political Correctness
to something more like how most userboxes are structured; something like instead of "Just say NO to political correctness", to "This user opposes political correctness and thinks it is often taken too far”. What do you think? I think it sounds more professional as well. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:13, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Vaselineeeeeeee: Oh my, I had no idea that anyone other than me was using that userbox. I thought I had it in my userspace just so that I could personalize it and not have it be used by anyone else. (Or, did I list it on some userbox page? I really can’t remember back 11 years! (Although, now that I’ve checked, I do see it linked to on this page: I guess I must’ve put it there!)) Anyway, how about first moving it into your userspace, and just taking it over? (You might need an admin to do this.) That way, all of the people using it (currently about 225 people) will continue to be doing so, as is. Then, the discussion as to how it should be re-worded, if at all, would take place at that new location in your user talkspace (at User talk:Vaselineeeeeeee/userboxes/No Political Correctness) leaving me out of it. I just don’t feel right unilaterally (or bilaterally, in this case) changing it when so many people are using it. What do you think? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 14:24, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
P.S. Hello fellow Torontonian! — SpikeToronto 14:29, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve tweaked other people’s userboxes before, but since this was somewhat substantial I wanted to run it by the creator. I’d rather not have it in my name space, but we can move the page to just something like “Template:UBX/no political correctness”. We can put this discussion into the talk page, but seeing as many of the users who use this userbox are inactive, and I doubt any will mind, but if they see it they can bring it up at the userbox talk. (Or they can use the second one you just created). Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:50, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Vaselineeeeeeee: If you want to edit it, it will have to be moved. Good, or bad, I do not want responsibility for the edits, nor do I want to be involved in any talkpage debate related thereto. Your idea of moving it to
Template:UBX/No political correctness
is, at first glance, a good one, except that that template subspace is little used these days (verify) for anything even remotely controversial. I would suggest moving it instead toUser:UBX/No political correctness
, a subspace which has become well used (verify) for such items, per the English WP’s adaptation of the so-called “German solution” for controversial userboxes. Finally, once moved, don’t forget to update the listing at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Politics/Issues#Media. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 11:55, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

- Ok, I've done that. I hadn't noticed the User:Tezero/Userboxes/PC misused userbox was basically what I was trying to go for, I like that one lol, therefore I kept your original inscription. If you want to redirect
User:SpikeToronto/userboxes/No Political Correctness2
toUser:UBX/No political correctness
, go ahead since they're the same. Take care, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 12:46, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

, I just made that to have as a back-up copy once the original got re-written. And, since the original is now available for anyone to edit, which is a good thing, I think I’ll just keep my back-up as is. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 10:00, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Hart Island
I can't read the NYT article as it's behind a paywall, but I'll trust your transmittal of the text. The main part I question is why would the bodies with AIDS have to be interred "away from the rest of the corpses" if the concern was for the gravediggers? What would it matter if they way interred near the other corpses? Thanks for your time. MartinezMD (talk) 06:28, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- @MartinezMD: The Corrections fellow in charge of the burial crews said they were “flying by the seat of their pants”, that they had no idea what risks there were from this new disease, the cause of which was still generally unknown at the time (the name HIV not being settled upon until 1986). City officials had the crews burying these early AIDS victims wear hazmat suits that were disposed of after each day’s burials. You can read an archived version of the article — not behind a paywall (yea!) — here. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 06:43, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you. That link was super helpful. Somehow I missed the archived link; I see it now. Going to make some minor edits with the benefit of the added background. MartinezMD (talk) 14:46, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- @MartinezMD: Glad you were able to read the NYT article. I found it to be both informative and sad. It really drove home the numbers of AIDS deaths, the enormity of which I had forgotten in the intervening years. — SpikeToronto 07:08, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
From Wikia
Hey Spike, it's ElsbridgeStationFan1995 from fandom. RWS1995 (talk) 06:12, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- @RWS1995: Hi! Nice hearing from you. It’s been a very long time. It’s also quite a coincidence since I was just thinking about you the other day. I’m glad to see you’re okay. It’d be nice to chat sometime, but unlike Wikia, there is no chat facility here at Wikipedia. If you wanted to chat and get caught up, we could do so on Skype or Discord. We could use email to provide each other our Skype/Discord contact info. I’m looking forward to hearing from you! — SpikeToronto 11:07, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

Sorry
Nice to meet you! Sorry, I reverted your request for source verification, and forgot that you had also improved the prose. Quite generally: don't put too much in one edit. Please redo the language improvements, - I don't want to have them sail under my name. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:47, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Response:
- “Noted. But, most editors would have instead taken the extremely brief time it took to delete the offending templates rather than revert the entire edit. It’s taken me more time to write this edit summary than it took to remove those templates.” [Taken from the (not very polite) edit summary of my edit here.] — SpikeToronto 14:42, January 30, 2021
more sorry
More sorry to bother you once more, but I tried to explain that it was my mistake to not have noticed until after my undo that there was more in your edit. OK, next time I'll self-revert and manually do something about such templates. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:58, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
