Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. Spam links[edit]

Wikipedia's guidelines on external links are clear - look at WP:SPAM#External_link_spamming for example. As you have noticed, there are plenty of promotional articles in WP. they should be tracked down and deleted - anybody who comes across such an article can nominate it for deletion.
