My participation on Wikipedia

Earlier this year (2017), I stopped editing on the Wikipedia, even though I was enjoying the work very much and I felt like I was accomplishing a lot. I still would enjoy it if I was doing it today. What has stopped me is my realization (through a lot of careful thought) that I can't continue editing here unless my personal needs are met in accordance with the oftentimes difficult work I have done or could be doing. Unless I can somehow make a living (even if just a partial living) from editing on Wikipedia, for the sake of my well-being, I can no longer do it. This is excruciating for me, as I love Wikipedia and I love the work. But I have to do what's right for my survival.

Now, if anyone has any ideas for how I can make a living by editing on Wikipedia, please e-mail me. These ideas, of course, will have to pass muster with Wikipedia policies, so please keep that in mind before you inquire.

I do have one idea for this, but I am too skittish about trying it, as I can't afford failure: Becoming a "public editor" who seeks general donations for my time and efforts, as well as reference materials. I could try this, but I'm afraid not enough folks would toss me a coin to make it worthwhile. I don't want to spend all the time building up a donation apparatus, only to see it not work out.

So, for the indefinite future, I am effectively retired from the Wikipedia. Even though I really want to continue. But I just can't. (this message was from November 17, 2017)

Surprise, I have decided to come back to do limited kinds of work, particularly general typo fixing and cleanups but also some specific tasks TBD. I am effectively unretired, but I don't see myself making the same degree of effort I did before. But working here is certainly a great palate cleanser for my other ongoing projects. Cheers! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ernest Givins, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gibbs High School. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:06, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Oops. Technically, I didn't add it but rather fixed the already existing link's formatting. I'll see if I can fix it. Thanks! Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 06:08, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

Li'l question

Where have all the editors gone? There's tons o' work to do and very few around to help do it. I'd ask at the Pump but it would be waved away like there's no problem. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 23:14, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
