There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 22:07, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your reason here: Dear sir /madame, having had an account on Wikipedia for 12 years, I can with certain memory only made 2-3 edit contributions. Maybe this is not enough to warrant an account, but for the most part it was to provide useful links to thesis and articles I have written regards local history, and botanical projects. My website www.spookspring.com is not a business, organisation or connected to any university, it is my own sole not for profit self funded site with no adverts for the storage of projects I have written and researched that the wider community may find useful. I decided on a whim today that my database / encyclopedia "Umbelliferae of the British Isles" website did not have a link on the Wiki, and to my mind is the most informative site full of facts that could ever be used regards that family of plants. I actually wrote the fist draft in short hand at the local library, then typed it up on my Amstrad CPC 464 in 1998 over 6 months, saving via tape, then printing it out on a Dotmatrix printer. I then in 2002 scanned all the individual pages and converted the print to text into a Geocities html templates, and then after that site got shut down, migrated it to my website. After the Umbelliferae family name changed to Apiaceae in 2012, I updated the site with current botanical information. The fact it survived is testimony to its usefulness to the community. I'm not sure if youve seen the site, since I understand that the link I provided was seen as some sort of business spam, which it isn't, Spookspring my username is my handle online that I always use, and thus the name of my site, so I would assume only you could explain as to why you think this is advertising, when it is purely altruistic in nature. If altruistic motives arent allowed on Wikipedia, then perhaps no-one at all should be allowed to edit Wikipedia, and be honest about it. Since I am a lone sheep and have no backup from the Botanical Society of Britain & Ireland, it should garner some clemency, since to accomplish it alone is a great task. Thanks for your time, James

Decline reason:

Since your username is the name of a website- even if it is yours- you will need to propose a new username. A name in the format of "YourName of Spookspring" would be acceptable(you don't need to use your real name). Regarding the promotional aspect of the block, linking to your own website, especially if it is the same name as your username, would be seen as promotional. At a minimum it is a conflict of interest and you should review that policy. It will inform you that you should not directly edit in the area of your COI- in this case, about your own website or posting/linking to your own research. You can make edit requests on article talk pages. You will need to agree to not directly edit about your website, in addition to suggesting a new username. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 23:18, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

{{unblock-spamun|sgnirpskoops|I have chosen a new username that can in no way be associated with my non promotional, not for profit, advert free, free to use, educational website. Having reviewed your policies and guidelines my proposal is to never directly edited a Wikipedia page, and not to directly add links to my own website. I will suggest to moderators that useful factual links associated to the subject be added via the Talk Edit Page on the subject page.}}

Except that it's just the name of your website mirrored. I've suggested a format that would be acceptable above if you want to mention the name of your website(which it doesn't matter if it is "nonpromotional", website names are not permitted as an entire username). 331dot (talk) 08:48, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

To any other admin; I find the rest of this user's request acceptable and you may unblock without consulting me once their username is acceptable. 331dot (talk) 08:50, 21 December 2018 (UTC) Agree with Yamla below. 331dot (talk) 10:11, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

the moderator suggested I could change my username in this format, above

Decline reason:

Renamed. However, it seems you plan to continue linking to your website. That's a conflict of interest and will not be allowed. Once you have read and understood WP:COI and are willing to avoid writing about anything for which you have a conflict, you are welcome to request another unblock. Request reason:

Meh forget it, my Umbelliferae webpage was a Wikipedia page before Wikipedia became popular, I dont need this BS, all I wanted for the public common good was to provide a useful link for those passing through Wiki, well jokes on you, because my webpage is the TOP result when searching "Umbelliferae of the British Isles" in Google. Also thanks for showing me the hypocrisy of your website, you rake in billions for false and dubious facts, while hiding behind the mask of anonymity and deny the free truth when it needs to be posted.

Decline reason:

This is not an unblock request. Yunshui  13:53, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
