Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Linton Research Fund Inc.", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Thanks for the information. I created a new account Linton Research Fund Inc., which is a Non-Profit genealogical research corporation which I have been President of since 1987, because I have been trying to log in to my old account Terry Louis Linton  T_L_Linton@june.com   or maybe Terry_L_Linton@Juno.com  for a long time I keep trying to change the password but Wikipedia would not send me the connection to do it or I never received it because one of the address is no longer in use.
If you want to change my user’s name, I would like to go back to Terry Louis Linton. Every time I try to open a new account, I get the message it is too close to an existing account.
Thank You. Linton Research Fund Inc. (talk) 00:27, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because your username, Linton Research Fund Inc., suggests shared use, which is against policy. It is also somewhat promotional for your organisation..
Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change of your current account here. The new username that you choose must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page here: {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If your username is not in violation of Wikipedia's username policy, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page here: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Thank you. Nick Moyes (talk) 15:38, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I sent the below message to you asking you to check on my old account but you did not just blocked me.

Recent edit reversion[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 18:07, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem icon Your edit to Jerusalem Mill Village has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. In response your edit reversion 01:19, 23 October 2023 and one by Sphibrick and Philbrick.
You removed an external link for copyright reasons, which I have no conflict with. However, also deleted were five new paragraphs of context in this process. This new context is well footnoted and documented with court records and authors.  I have been with the Friends of Jerusalem Mill for 36 years which are the caretaker and restorers of  They have asked me to updated this page. Please, look into restoring this deleted context, Thanks. Terry Louis Linton (talk) 03:50, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your interest in working on Wikipedia. There are a couple of problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder or have their permission, unless special licensing permissions are in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.
The second problem is conflict of interest. Writing an article about your own organisation or that of a client is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. I have placed some information about conflict of interest below. — Diannaa (talk) 14:22, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see how your system works how, if you write under an assumed name like Ser Amantio di Nicolao and you establish Peter Francisco on Wikipedia your real great-etc., grandfather you can continue to contribute to his page. But if you write under your real name, and establish your fourth great grandfather on Wikipedia you face copyright issues. Terry Louis Linton (talk) 01:02, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Copyright has nothing to do with your username. Everybody is subject to the same copyright policy. However, when you edit under the usernames "Linton Research Fund Inc." and "Terry Louis Linton" it's pretty obvious that you have a close connection with the subject of the article and therefore have a conflict of interest. — Diannaa (talk) 11:39, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you look-in-to my sandbox and undelete my sandbox, thanks Terry Louis Linton (talk) 12:00, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No I can't, because it contained copyright content copied from elsewhere online. Copyright material is not allowed anywhere on Wikipedia, not even in sandboxes or drafts. Sorry. — Diannaa (talk) 12:09, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, (but no copyright issues there) just lost a lot of work that was not backed to my computer) I will not work in sandbox anymore. Thanks again for your help and time and quick response. Terry Louis Linton (talk) 12:33, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Terry Louis Linton. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jerusalem Mill Village, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
