Thank you for your interest in improving wikipedia. However I have a word of caution with regard to your recent addition of eternal links to a number of dance articles. What wikipedia needs is addition of actual text to articles, not links to text written somewhere else. Wikipedia is not a web directory, it is an encyclopedia. People may use google to find a wealth of links on the topic themselves. An additional caution as about addition of links to the same website. It is usually considered spam and frowned upon. Concluding it is OK add come content to wiripedia articles using external links as footnotes, see WP:CITE policy, but simply adding links is of litte value for encyclopedia. `'Míkka>t 00:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Zippo-lighter-issue.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Zippo-lighter-issue.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 06:13, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Zippo-lighter-issue.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Zippo-lighter-issue.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 11:04, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Satans-angel-indian-costume.jpg}

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Satans-angel-indian-costume.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Should I have an editor look at an article I am writing before posting it?

[edit]

{{helpme}} I am putting together a short article on a burlesque exotic dancer who doesn't already have a Wikipedia entry. I am working on this article on a subpage to my user page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ultramartin/Satan%27s_Angel) Now I feel I am ready to make it public. Should I have a Wikipedia editor look at it before I move it over to the public Wikipedia? If so, who do I ask to look at it? --Ultramartin (talk) 16:31, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have trouble with notability here. From what I see, the only significant coverage was in a local free weekly newspaper. The others are either unreliable sources or trivial coverage. You could try to move it over, but I think it would be challenged. Also, your ref #6 points to another Wiki article, and that can't be a reference. I looked for a good project for you to get input from and all I could find was WP:SEX. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 16:52, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Mufka! I have added some more (hopefully reliable) sources. How can I get some input from WP:SEX? -- Ultramartin (talk) 19:27, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You can post a query at WT:SEX. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 19:32, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Satans-angel-indian-costume.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
