November 2015[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Wikipedia:Help desk, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. Drm310 (talk) 17:42, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not for advertising or advocacy[edit]

Your comment on the help desk, as noted by the replying editor, suggests that you wish to have an entry on Wikipedia to publicize your organization. This is not allowed - Wikipedia is not for advertising or promotion. Only organizations that are notable, as evidenced by significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, are considered worthy of inclusion. Wikipedia makes no distinction between for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations in this regard.

We also highly discourage editors from writing about their own organizations, as this is an inherent conflict of interest and will be difficult for you to maintain the required neutral point of view. More about this can be found in the plain and simple conflict of interest guide and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations.

I'm sorry that this message wasn't more favourable. I'm sure your organization does good work, but Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. --Drm310 (talk) 17:49, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "United States Volunteers - America", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a change of username, by completing this form, that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 20:30, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

November 2015[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy. It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you.
