Children's Lit[edit]

Wales[edit]

The International Eisteddfod isn't "another" Eisteddfod. It's undoubtedly the most famous one.

This is not the case. "Eisteddfod" generally refers to the National Eisteddfod, held annually in a different place in Wales since the nineteenth century. This can probably be demonstrated by sampling news articles.

Capitalization[edit]

It's not so much Wikipedia policy as it is the regular format of English. Album titles, bands, etc. which begin with "a," "the," or such aren't capitalized if the name appears in the middle of the sentence. As an example, "The Rutles parody the Beatles." I won't get into an edit war over it or anything, if you'd rather have it as The Rutles, then hey, be my guest. It won't detract from the information within. - Vague Rant 06:33, Nov 15, 2004 (UTC)

Well, if we're going for uniformity, then "the" is probably the way to go. Of the "the Bandnames" articles, a few which probably get the most attention are the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and the Beatles, all of which follow the same system of capitalization as I do. As I say, feel free to change it. It's no big issue for me, I don't mind it either way. I don't go searching it out or anything, I just change it if I come across it while making other edits. The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. expos/nationals debate[edit]

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

I think that when most teams have moved, i.e. Dodgers from Brooklyn, Giants to San Francisco, A's from Philadelphia to Kansas City and then to Oakland, Braves, etc., they have kept the team name and their history has gone with them. When the NFL's Cleveland Browns relocated to Baltimore in 1995, the league stripped them of all of the history, and that was all given to the expansion Browns which began play in 1999. The Ravens were treated like an expanison team in 1996. (That instance was, however, because the Cleveland locals were opposed to losing their team, and Montreal seems for the most part indifferent. I'm sure the Expos fans would disagree however.) The only comparable situation in baseball, however, was probably the Washington Senators. Was the Senators' (I) history considered the history of the Minnesota Twins? Is the second Senators' history considered that of the Texas Rangers? Had the second Senators' never moved to Texas but remained in DC after 1969, would the first Seantors' history be considered theirs? Interesting questions. RHolecko 16:46, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
