I would like to inquire about creating an article. I plan to create an article for a celebrity to introduce her experiences and achievements. I have previously posted a talk to inquire about this, and at that time, it was declined due to insufficient references. However, recently I have organized the references and added all of them. Despite multiple revisions, they are all now highly reliable sources from China. Yet, the article is still evaluated as "not adequately supported by reliable sources." I want to know what kind of sources Wikipedia considers reliable. Because this celebrity has made significant contributions to traditional Chinese theater, most of the coverage is within China. Although there have been some performances abroad, there is almost no news in English media. I seek advice from professionals! Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vivian0617 (talk • contribs) 09:57, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

- @Vivian0617: Hi Vivian! First of all, please do not be discouraged by the multiple rejections. It is very common in the early stages of Wikipedia editing.
- Reliable sources refer to secondary and independent sources from credible origins. Most of the sources you added are from NetEase or Sohu, which are not considered credible origins since much of the content is user-generated and unverifiable. The Yixian source is also unsatisfactory, as it is merely a portal for public examination result releases. I assume you can read Chinese since the sources you cited are in this language. You may want to take a look at the List of Perennial sources of the Chinese Wikipedia to check whether the sources are unreliable or not. Simply put, you may consider adding news articles that cover or introduce Chen (except paid advertorials or interviews initiated by Chen herself). You may take reference from the corresponding article on Chinese Wikipedia, which cited news articles from media outlets Guangming Daily, The Paper, and China News Service. These are some examples of reliable sources.
- Besides, the article is currently not following Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography, which has step-by-step instructions on how to compose an article. For instance, the sources are currently cited in incorrect formats. The following reference template should be used when citing sources, instead of simply listing out URL links and titles:
- <ref>{{Cite web |url= |title= |date= |publisher= |access-date= |language= }}</ref>
- A small tip from me would be to try to take reference from other biographical articles, such as Fan Ruijuan and Yuan Xuefen, who are also Yue opera actresses. See how these articles are written and learn from them. Feel free to find me on my talk page if you have any other questions or want another review after you have finished revisions. Cheers and happy editing! —Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul) 12:50, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your patient reply. Actually, I edited the content after studying the Wikipedia pages of some celebrities. Based on your feedback, I reviewed those bibliographies again, but I found that the pages that have been accepted and published to the public contain a lot of content from NetEase and Sina, such as Yang Zi, so this situation makes me very confused. Besides, Chen is a new-generation Yue opera actor who has ventured into the entertainment industry to promote traditional culture. Therefore, a lot of entertainment-related reports come from entertainment news rather than the official media reports you listed. This makes me struggle a lot. I hope to get your guidance and help! Thank you for your time! Vivian0617 (talk) 02:25, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Apologies for not explaining the situation more clearly in my previous comment. If you take a look at the List of Perennial sources of the Chinese Wikipedia (维基百科:可靠来源/常见有争议来源列表), you will see that NetEase or Sohu are colored red and labeled as "generally unreliable", but they are not deprecated sources that are barred from being cited on Wikipedia with a default filter. These sources can be cited as primary sources to flesh out an article, but only if no better source can be found. These sources should also not make up the majority of an article, to the point where there are completely no secondary and reliable sources to demonstrate its notability. There are cases like Yang Zi that are heavily dependent on these less favorable sources simply because someone added them after the early creation stage and bypassed Wikipedia's volunteer patrollers. This scenario is unsatisfactory, and we should not use the worst precedents on Wikipedia to grant a pass for all new pages. In short, you may consider citing one or two NetEase or Sohu sources only if there are no better options and such content is important to the subject person that should not be left out for the sake of the article's quality. Otherwise, news articles from more reliable sources should be the sole citation materials presented in an article review.
- I do not believe it would be particularly difficult to locate media sources for Chen Lijun. I did a simple search and already came up with some decent sources with independent and significant coverage of her, such as this Xinhua News Agency[1] and this Wen Wei Po article[2]. I also do not believe sources for her performance credits, like Sisters Who Make Waves or New Dragon Inn, would be difficult to locate, considering their popularity. (See this Liberty Times[3] and this The Paper article[4].) Try your best to look for these kinds of sources to replace the ones currently in the article, and only leave the ones that you really cannot find a better replacement for. Let me know after you have thoroughly searched the internet, and I will see what else I can do.
- Remember to cite the sources using the template I provided earlier. Cheers and I look forward to seeing the article take shape! —Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul) 10:10, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, thank you for your patient guidance! I have modified the references as much as possible based on the clues you provided. However, for some festival performances, there were no opportunities to obtain detailed reports from these official news media. Considering that videos can better reflect the authenticity of the performances, I have cited program videos from the official TV station published on YouTube. If you have any other suggestions for improvement or can provide better information sources, I look forward to your guidance! Thank you! Vivian0617 (talk) 08:07, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul) 09:43, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Hi Vivian, the draft has been accepted! The new sources you located are excellent, and I have replaced some of the primary sources (those from YouTube) with more suitable ones.
