Wikipedia is not for promotion[edit]

The article Telcordia Generic Requirements (GRs) has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group or service and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Connectors.[edit]

Hi. You recently added a bunch of text to Optical fiber connector, beginning with the phrase "According to Telcordia...". The edit is here. Was the entire passage of text you added a direct quote from the telcordia spec, or was only some of it quoted? Direct quotations have to be formatted so it's clear what is a quotation from another source and what is original material. I can help with the formatting if you let me know what if anything is quoted.

There are also copyright issues with quoting large blocks of material from other publications. If all that material is a quote, we likely can't use it in this context. (It's not just about length, but rather about how the material is used. Quotations can't take the place of article text. A quote is used to show what a particular source has to say about a subject. It is not used to explain the subject itself.)--Srleffler (talk) 07:06, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the text was not extracted word for word from Telcordia. It is paraphrased and other information in the entry came from Web research. I appreciate your concern and please be aware the it is not my intention to circumvent Wikipedia rules.(WCroslan (talk) 15:51, 11 August 2010 (UTC))[reply]

However, we can't help noticing that your additions read like adverts for Telcordia. Please look through WP:SOAP and WP:UNDUE and avoid that. Materialscientist (talk) 23:38, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

September 2011[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. [1] MrOllie (talk) 14:50, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
